nsr engine help

hey i got a nsr 1991 model i have just had a full engine rebuild i put the engine back in the bike bumped it toke a bit to get it started but worked had a quick go and put it back toke it out 2 days l8er it started first time with choke on revs died down turned choke off set off 5 secs l8ers it back fired well like a hiss not a bang and died it has compresion and wants to start but just doesent any ideas please help

How high did you rev the engine?

You should be running it in very carefully after a rebuild so nor more than 5000revs for 100miles, 6k for another 100miles etc.

How do you know it has compression? Does it fire?

i put this on the wrong topic so :
turn the tap on and let it for a small time . turn off the tap and take off your carb without turning it upside down (by the way , have a look if it's no plate beetween the pipe and the reed valves) without turning it upside down , take off the float chamber without spreading any petrol inside , then mesure the hight (something like 20 to 24 mm) if less than that move down the small leg on the float , but not too much otherwise the valve will not close and petrol will overflow . then look your carb adjustments . you should have : main 145 , idle 45 , power 65 or 70 . prior of that you can order jets from https://www.dellorto.co.uk (£2.95 ex VAT and p&p) . they will ship them to you within 4 days . afterwards clean your air box . adjustments on the pilot screw is thight and 2 1/2 turns unscrewed . idle is set at 1500 rpm after 5 mn running (when the temperature indicator goes in the white)

sounds like it flooded in a big way... you get a rather unique hiss and bang... inspect the Jets, needle valve floats etc

sorry to post again, but if it has the said Dellorto Carb, they are notorious for wearing and running rich, you get this problem a great deal on similar age Aprillias with the 34mm Dellorto, they are real hard to keep running well, one option to consider is a similar Mikuni Slide carb. is the bike standard otherwise??? sorry to barge in... just offering my 2 cents as it were
