right i have a bit of a wierd problem, not sure when this happened but it may have been in the fall i had on monday, anyway the lights on the rear of the clocks on my 96 divvy are acting up, when i turn my lights on to "sidelights" the clocks light comes on but when i turn the lights on full both dipped and full beam the light behind the clocks go out! can't work it out but i am guessing a wire has come loose somewhere, has anyone got any suggestions of where to start looking?
Cheers

Hi

Looking at the wiring diagram it looks like a common wire from the light switch to the clocks irrespective of whether it is on dip or main beam. I would suspect that the problem is a dirty contact in the light switch.

All the best

Hi keith,
Thanks for looking that one up, looked at the wiring diagram in my haynes and can see connection that you mean, think that the wire connecting the switch to the bulbs may have got disconnected as this was the side of the bars that got bent and took most of the impact, when i am checking the voltage with a multimeter where's a good place to take a earth if i can't be bothered to find an earth wire? will the cylinder block do?
Cheers

My non-divvy did the same the other day.

When on pilot lights they're on, switch to dipped beam and the clock lights go out.

Have a bit of a fiddle with the switch and they come back, loose connection in the RH switchgear?

If the multimeter leads are long enough then use the negative terminal of the battery. Otherwise the engine block will do fine.

I know its not a bike, But my rev counter on my mini was doing this. When I had my lights OFF, The rev counter worked fine, But when I turned my lights ON, The light on the rev counter did NOT work and the rev counter also turned off. As soon as I turned the lgihts off, The rev counter came back on.

It was infact a bad earth from the Rev counter. This Could be the problem with yours, but dont count on it, its just an idea Thumbs Up
