The first thing I thought of if lots of bulbs blow is an overcharging problem perhaps.

Your thinking sounds good to me, if the regulator/rectifier is pumping out too many volts this will indeed kill bulbs.
Have you put a volt meter across the battery with the engine running to see what the volts are like?

Not sure if it's dead or alive really, job for volt meter is the way I would play it.
If I'm honest I have never really heard of a loose battery connection knocking out bulbs Confused
Fingers crossed that was the fault.

Probably the voltage regulator part of the reg/rec.

Some bikes have a ballast resistor connected in paralell with the headlamp bulb (noteably older CG125s and H100s) if these fail or become disconnected, they will pop bulbs. I doubt your bike has one though as they are pretty old fashioned, I have only ever seen them on 6v direct lighting setups.

As Git says, get a voltmeter accross the battery terminals and measure the voltage with a few revs on. If it is going much above 14.5 volts, the regulator is shot.

Hi

Other than wear and tear only two things kill bulbs , over voltage and vibration , so check out them volts, if it is over voltage expect
to see 16-17v at 2500rpm +

Bulbs start popping at around 17-18v dependant on its
susceptibility to vibration oh and how much right hand the bike gets.

duff regulator + mucho right hand = loads of volts and blown bulbs
and if your real unlucky blown condensers , cdi box = (walking)

Can you tell I am talking from painful experience

All the best

Patto
