A 'desoldering tool'. The solder will set pretty quickly, then when you push the plunger, the metal rod will push the bit of solder out of the nozzle.

You can get a coil of 'wick' that does a similar job and will remove a lot more solder. Those sucker things are really meant for desoldering the tiny blobs on printed circuit boards to remove and replace a defective componant.

If you think about it, you use a piece of sponge to remove excess solder directly off the end of your hot soldering iron and printed circuit boards are made of plastic, melting is not that much of an issue with electronic solder. Plumbing solder can stay motlen for a longer period and might cause problems.

As stinkwheel says though its called desoldering braid, i find it easier than the sucker, you just melt the solder and the braid attracts the molton solder
