Hi guys, i have a VFR400 nc24, with a rather loud race can fitted.

The can is not marked anywhere to suggest off road use or being road legal.

is it possible to buy baffles for the can to make it quiet enough for an mot? if so where?

I've just bought a nc30 with a scorpion race can which says "Not for road use Wink ", would that baffle make it legal for road use ?
Seems a cheaper option then buying a road legal can .
Or should i grind the warning off and wear ear plugs and fit a BS stamp ? Wink

£17 is cheaper than you will find an alternative can for however.

if you have a can marked not for road use, then no matter how quiet it is you cant use it on the road!

However would that DB killer make it road legal? as mine has no such markings.

it says upto 15 dB and TBH that is a scrub off of a hell of a lot of pressure. couldn't tell you but i am sure that whatever the attenuation that it actually provides to you exhaust will make a difference in the MOT tester ears, as he/she will see there is some sort of baffle in there and probibly think that its not offencifially loud!

if it is stamped no for road use then in the eyes of the law then is should not be used on the road, even if it does fulfil the required noise regulations, saying that with one of these in you probably will attract less attention from the fuzz

Cans must carry a EU mark, like E1 with lots of other markings which indicate the bike or exhaust manufacturer has complied with the regualtions laid out, you'll see them on bikes since the 80s, if the can has no markings then its illegal to use on road.

I thought new legislation means that it should be legal unless specifically marked "Not For Road Use", "Competition Use Only", etc.

If you buy a baffle thing you could polish out the illegal stamping if you had one I suppose.

Depends on what we are talking about. Passing an MOT test is what you are talking about, and the rules for silencers on that were changed a year or 2 back. However, technically that does not make them road legal.

All the best
