Is there any legal issue with trimming the L plates as I'm on a CBT?

yes there is a legal thing with L plates
my mate got pulled and told off for having a cut down L plate.

Since then he has removed it and rides with no L plates even though he hasnt passed. He hasnt got pulled. So you are more likely to get pulled for riding with cut down L plate than no L plates at all.

I don't think it's a funny question as I've seen people do it before and haven't read about any size parameters before...

The Legal requirement is to have plates front ant Rear L in Most of britain, D if your in Wales (like anyone with Learner plates goes there!) fitted clearly 7 inches x 7 inches.

If you book a CBT course and use your own bike, it is quite possible the training school will tell you they cant take you out on the road without full size learner plates.

On a personal note, if they arent trimmed too severely, most coppers wont mind unless your riding like a plum.

For crying out loud.

Just be responsible.

Stick the 7x7 'L' plates on your bike and ride the bloody thing. You're not an embarrasment to anyone. We've ALL had to do it, so why not you ? Once you pass your test you can cut them up with glee. Thumbs Up

If you were learning to drive a car I'm sure you'd get very short shrift from the instructor if you asked him or her to cut down the 'L' plates. Rolling Eyes

I dunno'

Maybe because the full size L plates don't fit on every learners bike out there so some have to be trimmed down. Not a stupid question at all.

We really do need a twat rating.

Simple solution, if you wish to risk 3 points for each L plate you're missing then fair enough. No one here can stop you doing it but don't complain when/if you get pulled.

3 points and 60 pound fine if you cut it down. You should have been told that on your CBT, if you've done one.

Not necessarily , Sean_ off here went to court because of not displaying any and only received 3 points.

How can L plates not fit onto a bike? Surely for any bike there will be some way of attaching legal sized plates on it somewhere , unless it's a mini moto.

So, what's the point (no pun intended).

Is it REALLY worth trying to add points to your licence unnecessarily ?

Why would you want to ?

I dunno' Some folks Rolling Eyes

Yeah, I never get why young blokes (not that I'm old and crusty Wink ) feel the urge to do this. You see some where they just cut out the 'L' and stick it on the front of the bike. Why? Thinking

Just asking for a copper keen on getting promoted to fuck you right over one. Doubt they'll bother pulling you over if you've just trimmed a wee bit of the white stuff off but again seems a pretty pointless task to undertake.
