Confused man who dont alot of my setting up...1st said it might be the clutch plates but then he tried it 2day but only breifly as he was very busy & i was in & out & now reckons it deffo aint anything to do with the clutch but he did say just try cleaning the air filter out 1st (which i am now) but what other thing/s could it be?

Hi

Non stock exhaust? Sounds like a flat spot just off idle, and these are often caused by mixture problems from aftermarket exhausts.

All the best

Hi

Probably too lean, at some point.

Probably best to take it along to someone with a dyno and an exhaust gas analyser to play with the jetting and set it up for the can.

All the best

Keith

ok cheers but i would of thought it would have been 2 rich hence it bogging down(2 much fuel, oil) cause lean is less but a lot more dodgy Shocked (use to strip 2t's) so plug colour will still tell me wont it? same as 2t's?

sometimes it can be that your carbs or throttle bodies need balancing

Ok a couple of things:

Are you both using carb'ed engines? If so you'll probably find that it'll be affected a lot more by factors such as air temp, humidity, engine temp, oil temp etc. Not to mention cack in the bodies, wear and tear on the engine, jetting, balancing etc...

Not a lot we can do about any of that - but it will explain some of it. My CBR600 performs a shedload better in cold crisp dry air, than hot/humid summer air (like someone hitting the boost button).

2ndly have you tried over revving it? If you want to make a fashionable exit from some lights I may consider doing it conservatively at say 4 or 5 k, but have been known to rev up to 10k! ( Middle Finger you car drivers! Mr. Green )

When doing this its crucial to have good clutch control (so your idea of perhaps dodgy clutch plates could be a good one, but maybe not a physical problem with the clutch, just how you're using it?) Fractionally too little clutch and you're insta-wheelie-ing down the road, too much and you sound like a cunt and not going very far very fast...

The first few metres shouldnt be too slow though. When im doing my fast takeoffs it'll drag like you've described for about the first second, and then really kick in - this is where the clutch has fully bitten and its all systems go Smile

First off, have you tried slipping the clutch at higher rpm to get away?

Second, are you sure you're going to lower revs in other gears for it to happen? It might just be that you don't go that low down the rev range in normal riding, so don't notice it.

cheers for the replies but yes i have tried higher revving then letting clutch out but once it starts 2 bite then it kinda kills it so it goes striaght back to it bogging. but how much i've revved it on the lights before i try & take off with decent enough acceleration is FAR too much then what i should have to be doing

it did backfire few days ago aswell Confused MASSIVE BANG!

also im not sure if it is the pipe whats been put on Confused cause when i got it with the pipe already on i dont remember it being like this Confused

Hi

If carbed I would try lifting the needles one notch and see if that improves things. Hopefully this might improve things and if so will at least let you know what you need to do.

All the best

Keith
