Right here is my little story to tell all.
On Thursday I went to Alton towers with my girlfriend in the car, I was driving, I kept to the speed limit all the way there, even managed to stay down to 70 on the motorway
We had a fun day and so we stayed overnight and came back yesterday, we were about 5 miles from the house and the traffic built up to a roundabout quite a bit, so using my local knowledge I took a shortcut through some country lanes and came out at a village. Now through the village there used to be a main road, but it got bypassed so it had a 40MPH limit through it, or so I thought, whilst I was learning to drive about a month ago I know 100% certain that it was a 40 and so I came out of the junction and saw some community speedwatch with a speed gun, now I speeded up to 40 believing that was the limit, so I gave them a friendly wave and carried on by, they weren't looking too happy, I then looked back at the speed sign and it had recently been changed to 30MPH without any warning! So I'm cursing and swearing all the way home thinking i'm going to be on 3 points, £60 fine after 6 months of riding or driving, of which I didn;t want to accumulate any points in the car because it's pointless.
What I want to know is, can I get done by the community speedwatch as there were no police present, also I did not see any signs at all warning of speedchecks, isn;t there legislation out there that requires all speedchecks to be conducted within a certain distance of a "speed camera" sign?
I know I am in the wrong here, I was 10MPH over the limit, it was purely an accident of my own part though, but I know for a fact, you and the courts would not take my word for it in court, basically all I wanna know is if I will get points on my licence.
Thanks, Jon. ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it?s worth. |

Cunts, the lot of em, do they have nothing better to do on a Friday afternoon? It's almost as sad as a five year old counting how many red cars they can see. ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Sounds like 'Saddo' pensioners and village dwellers who worry about ANYTHING which doesn't fit in with 'their' way of thinking.
Already an active part of Neighbourhood Watch and their local PC has managed to provide them with a speed cam to record evidence of one of their gripes - namely, speeding drivers/riders.
They get your number plate, tell PC Neighbourhood Watch and you 'might' get a letter saying you ought to be more considerate. Otherwise, you'll here nothing. It's just something people want to do in order to increase 'their' quality of life and stop people driving through their road at such a high speed - WOW
Personally, I would say, unless road signs state otherwise, just drop your speed to 30mph through ANY village. Surely, we were ALL taught on CBT that if there are no road signs in a built-up area, we should assume the speed limit to be 30mph ?

Thanks for all the comments, SP1, yours especially, I'm not bothered about them taking my speed down as such, more that I did not know myself the speed had changed, as sometimes you will get a red sign saying "New Speed Limit" in place. I dunno, I obviously wasn't paying due care and attention to the road. ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. If you get anything done to you, you said it was a pretty small village? Go and find where he lives and make him see things your way, and change his statement ____________________ Will work for petrol

A few months ago l sore two old men wearing police style flosent jackets in a village by Dorking taking down peoples number plates while pointing a speed gun at them, But unlike the police who give some thought were to st up a speed trap these idoits were standing about 30 meters from a sharpe left and bend, which casued drivers to slam on there brakes when seeing them just after they come out of the bend.
So if anyone one was driving around the bend behind them they would of crashed into the back of the first driver. ____________________ Past:NRG50,AF1125(x2),NSR125RR,ZZR250,CX500,VFR400,KR1S,ZZR600(x2),CB400N,YZF1000(x2),KH125,Z200,FX400R,CBR954RR(x2)GPZ500S,GT550,VFR750F(x2),RD350N,XR650R,CBR600F,CB250,KDX250,YZF750R,CRM250,400EXC,KLR650,TTR600RE,DR350S,R100GSPD,RGV250,VMAX1200,DL650,KZ750 Present:G650XC,C12,CRF450X,1190ADV |
