Have you tried bleeding the brake system?

Do they feel spongy?

The rear brake on any sports bikes are crap, mine is poor, thats why there's a massive front disc.

Front brake is fine to use alone.

Top up your brake fluid and bleed it as you go.

If it still feels the same after then you may need new pads, they're a piece of piss to change. While you're changing them give the Caliper a good srub and clean aswell and check the condition of your brake disc while you're at it.

If you need to change them give David Silver Spares a ring.

And if you feel up to it while you are doing the back give the front a check and clean.

Thumbs Up

rear break on nsr is just a slow down accessory . it's good that it's not a strong one , otherwise you had fell down very often ! you can improve a bit by changind the rubber pipe between the master & caliper with aeroplane type (brembo) .

The back brake on my NSR is actually quite good, you only need to use it lightly, otherwise you could lock the rear wheel. There's certainly no need to "push really hard on the lever" with mine.

The rear brake on my scoot was like that... I changed the pads, gave the caliper a good stripdown/clean (found out one piston had semi seized) and then finally gave the disc a clean with some ethenol to make sure no oil/grime were on the discs (which might be your problem). Now I can lock the back wheel quite easily if I want. Before I nearly could pull off with the lever in as far as I could pull it!

You can pass an MOT with a fairly weak brake (not as in lever to the handlebars just generally shite) since they only take it off the center stand and push the bike forward while grabbing the brake. Mine would grip ok if I was just pushing the scoot around... Was worse than useless at anything above 10-15mph though..

I remember actually back when my rear hose needed replacing.. I took my scoot to the bikeshop with a crappy rear brake and it came back exactly the same. I was hoping they'd sort it but they must of assumed they were ok but just pushing the bike around you wouldnt've known. but yeh 3 days later all the fluid had leaked out causing complete failure Evil or Very Mad fucking idiots. Didnt think to double check all the bolts were tight when they replaced the hose had they!! Sick Thumbs Down shouldve went back and kicked off but you cant exactly prove anything Neutral
