Hi,
can someone tell me what I need to change the front sprocket on a Z thou?

do I need an extractor, or just a good socket?

First google search wrote:

27mm and some muscle. I used my large torque wrench, if your by yourself use a zip tie to hold your front brake on. You also have to bend the washer down that holds the nut in place. Loosen the axle and the chain adjusters so the wheel can move all the way forward. It just takes a little strength and some maneuvering to get the sprocket out.

No, just renewing the sprockets, it's done a few miles, all those trips abroad soon mount up.

Personally I don't like using the chain to hold the sprocket - you can easily stick 1000ft-lb or so of torque through it.

Often you will find that using the rear brake to hold the wheel isn't enough - I've snapped a wooden hammer shaft using it to block the rear wheel up.

Personally, I try and use an impact wrench of some kind (air/electric) as it generally makes it a lot less hassle and with a lot less likely-hood of damaging the bike.

Yes, complete chain and sprocket change, manged to do the rear one, just having probs with the front Wink

3ft breaker bar, put the front wheel against a wall, 2x4 thru the rear wheel & have someone of the other side of the bike to steady it as you will probably lift the rear of the bike off the ground.
