Its a personal thing but before you do anything else I would take the spark plugs out and put a bit of oil in each cylinder. If its got one put the bike on the center stand, knock it into gear and just turn the back wheel slowly by hand. Like I said, its not something you have to do, I just like to know that the engine will turn without putting it under too much stress after sitting for a couple of years.
All kind of generic but should help to start tracking the problem.
Is there any sounds from the bike when you press the starter button? If you hear a click then the circuit is fine but the starter is knackered in some way.
Turn the headlight on and press the starter, does the headlight dim? Yes, then its possible theres a short in the starter circuit or the starter motor has failed. No, a broken wire or bad connection or a switch in the starter circuit isn't working.
All the fuses ok? Sometimes the starter will have its own seperate one.
Find a wiring diagram.
Test the starter button with a multimeter. Same for the kill switch, make sure both turn on and off.
Is the neutral light on? Try changing to first then back to neutral.
Try with the side stand up and down, test the continuity of the side stand switch, does it turn on off?
Try with clutch in and out? Test the continuity of the switch if fitted.
If all those pass ok then you need to check power is getting to the starter relay. If power is getting there but nothing is happening then the fault is either with the relay or the starter.
If you wanted to you could connect the live wire from the battery directly to the switched side of the starter relay (the wire that goes to the starter motor) just to check the starter will turn. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT CONNECTIONS!! ____________________ https://www.metacafe.com/watch/1972097/how_to_behave_on_a_forum/ |

Killswitch is on the right hand bar, right at the top.
Its the red switch and it needs to be down at the bottom - thats the on position.
Also even if the sidestand switch is faulty, it will start in neutral
Does the engine turn over? Do you hear a click when u press the button to start? what happens exactly ____________________ CBT Aug '03 ... Gilera GSM 50 ... Honda NSR 125 Aug '04 ...
