 Posted: 01:39 - 20 Oct 2006 Post subject: Camera help |
 |
|
I've been lurking for a while but decided it was time to make an account once I needed some help!
Anyways straight to the point:
I basically want to get a bullet camera (link) and fit it to a digital video recorder (link). I also want to power both devices from my bike battery.
Now as the voltage isn't going to be all that steady and I don't want to wreck the camera/recorder, I'll be fitting a voltage regulator in between. I also need a potential divider to step down the voltage before it gets to the recorder as it only takes a 5v input.
Here's a diagram:

Now, where I need the help:
Firstly is there anything obviously wrong with this? I've never done anything similar so any advice will be more than welcome.
Second, I'll be building the divider myself, and I'm a little confused as to where I connect the 0v rail to - the negative terminal of the battery would be the obvious choice - is this correct?
Any input is much appreciated, so thanks |

Looks interesting... I'll look into it!
@Kickstart - Thanks for the input, I'll check with my supplier and see what they say.
Anyone have anything to say regarding my second post? |

Thanks for the help dave - I'm going to give the regulator a shot for two reasons:
1) I can make the entire contraption small, space is a concern for me as I've already got an Autocom system under the seat, and
2) I love tinkering with electronics!
However as it will inevitably result in either mild electrocution or burnt-out components (likely both) I'll pick up a converter on Monday. Thanks! |
