 |
|
Hey,
I've just picked up a K5 SV650S, lovely bike but I bought a v twin for the noise! So which race can really brings out the awesome sound of the thumpers? I'm in Ireland so we've no such thing as road legal cans . There are so many out there I just don't know which one to choose, e.g. yoshi, scorpion, blue flame, viper, micron, laser etc. etc.
Cheers for any advice you guys might have! |

Then click goodies and choose for yourself.
I like the Remus and the Scorpion the most, real growl. |

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another. |

As you know, the problem with the sound of an SV is that for the rider it is quite quiet. For those behind it it sounds great. Changing the end can enables the rider to hear the engine better, and it feels safer if the bike is a little noisier 'cause the cagers can hear there is a bike coming.
If you get a slip on can, there are loads on e-bay. And you cut the old one off carefully enough, you can put the blimmin thing back on again if you want. All you need is a joining clip which fits securely enough.
You don't have to get a daft straight through can, just about any legal can will do the trick, although some of them are not as well made as others.
Another thing is the original exhaust is very heavy. Changing the can or the whole lot is a considerable weight saving I'm told. |
I don't see the quietness as a problem. I prefer it quiet as I do on average 15K miles a year purely pleasure (not including commuting miles on top of that)... a race can would be annoying. It's just non stop BLAHHHHHHHHH reverberating inside your head. If you only do the occasional sunday blast according to the national average of 2000 miles a year in summer then fine - I suppose you could live with it. But not me, I would rather have the quieter but more powerful bike that a standard system provides. As to knowing what the engine's doing.....
.....personally I just use the rev meter
As to cagers hearing you. They won't until it's to late, race can or not. A typical car such as my 306 has sound proofing, air conditioning on full blast in this heat and usually the radio on. Those combined mean I wouldn't hear a nuclear explosion if i was looking for one |

Jimbot, get off your high horse, some other people use their bikes more than once a year too and I for one would love a great big loud can strapped to my bikes tail end, hopefully on my next bike I will have a straight through, does this make me a noob?
It's all about personal preference, and if you ain't man enough to let your bike show it's true voice in the form of a growl then fine, but don't drag the rest of us down with you. |
