okay, yes its another one of those "how do i wheelie" threads, what im basicly after is some tips on doing "safe" wheelies i.e not flipping the bike ect, starting off a total noob with big bike wheelies, were should i start?
Power wheelies? or clutching it in 1st?

what sort of rpm and speed should i be starting at to work myself up?
Im on a thundercat 600.

any advice that will stop me killing myself, others and the bike would be great.

Id like to get some of you sparks if you would be so kind.

Steve.

Mr. Green Thundercat wheelies are great.

Pull off in 1st gear. Make sure you're warmed up properly, or you'll put some undue strain on the engine.

Now 8k is the powerband kick in, but I find it easier to accelerate to 7k and then wrench the throttle back. There's not a great need to go all the way back, especially when you're just starting. About 3/4 throttle should see the front wheel lift slightly. At 7k you'll have a much slower, controlled lift. I find if I pull at 8k the front just rockets up and I brick it, and it slams back down. If I go at 7k I can get some decent, sustained wheelies going before I run out of power, because it doesn't ever reach the balance point. You can feel it struggling to gain height, so there's no 'Poo! Better stop!' thought. You just keep it there until it runs out of steam.

Basically just pull the throttle back at 7k or so, don't be a pussy about it. You'll definitely feel the front wheel lift and you'll snap it shut. The art is mastering that snap impulse and keeping it on a bit, to sustain the wheelie a bit. I'm still working on that, and I do maybe 20 or so wheelie attempts a week, for the last 4 months.

20 wheelies a week x 4 months = new head bearings.

Cool

Nope wasn't there, bikes still in pieces altho almost finished now.. knew there would be a big police presence anyway so didn't bother going on that part.. last time I went to the ace I wheelied past a undercover cop car and nearly got nicked for it Laughing

If it was another red 600 f sport with a crash cage it was probably my mate called Exo. similar looking bike to mine but without the yellow stripes, although I've changed the bars on mine now.

this is how i wheelie(you will find your own way)
1..roll the throttle hard
2... as soon as the wheel lifts knock it in to 2nd with out useing the clutch
3.. now very light adjustments on the throttle ((roll dont snatch)
to keep your balance point
4... always cover the rear brake if you get to high press brake
5... if 2nd gears not fast enough 4 ya repeat step 2 in to 3rd gear

most importantly take your time it wont all come at once ive been wheelieing for years and still fucked up the other week on a 250cc crosser n broke my shoulder

Play and see what feels right.
10k should definitely get it up - should be able to start lower.

For power wheelies it's often best to start high (where it's easier) and bring it down lower as you get used to it to give you more revs to play with.

I've not intentionally wheelied yet but a couple of times have filled my kecks when over taking in second cracking the throttle open, going up for third but only finding second again, oh and the nose hoiking up off the tarmac.

I'm on a Gixxer 600 so assume that if I want to I can just twist it fully open in first at around 6k-7k??

To be honest though I think I would much prefer the clutch method but at the moment I'm just getting jolted forward and there's not alot else going on Sad .

Does this sort of stuff work on all 600's or would it only apply to super sport's?

I.E would it work on a 1999 Fazer 600.

I've been interested to try sometime in the near future but wanted to find a safe location to learn first.

The 'lesser' 600s i.e bandits fazers etc can wheelie for sure.

It'll just need a bit of clutch abuse to get it up to the balance point. I've only ever had the front up off power on the bandit once.

And that was in first and only skipped along the ground.
