Pete,
You will need to get it MOT'd and insured 'before' you will be issued with a UK number plate.
You will need to use the Frame number to do both. Once you have them, send them off to the DVLA (with proof of age of the vehicle and the correct DVLA form) along with a fee for £30 + 1 years road tax (say about £90 in all), and you will get your V5C through a few weeks later, along with a seperate form which tells you what your new plate is. Acutally this turns up a few day earlier I think.

I imported a bike from the Isle of Man to the UK a few years back. There was no tax to pay, but I'm not sure whether the Channel Islands operate a different system. The owner in the Isle of Man had completed all the relevant export paperwork as well, which may have helped.
Regarding the bike, has it been registered in the UK before? If so, you're OK. If not then depending on the age, you will either need a type approval certificate (newer models), the number of which is entered onto your registration documents at your local DVLA office, or if the bike is older (but less than 10 years old) the bike will need to go through a SVA test. If the vehicle is over 10 years old then you're OK. Apart from the SVA test, you can take care of everything at the DVLA office.
If your bike needs a SVA, then get in touch, as this is what I had to go through.
Have a look at the DVLA website. I went through and checked everything - it's not the most user-friendly site in the world, but persevere and you'll find something! ____________________ Dead nobodies in company cars... |
