Bandit Gone MENTAL!!!!

Hi everyone.
looking for a bit of wisdom. I have had my k series bandit for about 2 months now and have done 1000 miles. Every now and again it goes MENTAL and revs it self right up even if i let go of the throttle. Its happened about 5 times now and am a bit worried. Its not the throttle cable sticking just wondering if anyone knows what else it could be?

I am struggling to understand that. Surely if the carbs were sticking it could only be the main needle jet. Otherwise you would have fuel starvation, ie it would die.
I was thinking more likely a blocked vacuum pipe.

when does this happen? How high does it rev to?
whilst riding along? under acceleration? coming to a stop/junction?

Sometimes an engine will rev high just prior to running out of fuel for some reason. Does it happen when fuel level is low/cornering hard?

usually happens in second gear i will be putting the gas on slowly and then it will rev right up to the readline! only stops when i hit the kill switch. this is very intermitant as i said before its happened 5 times in 1000 miles?

The K series bandits have an exposed throttle position sensor (pretty much positioned where the cable joins the carbs). Give it a check over - no corroded wires etc.

Check the two throttle cables properly one may be worn/frayed and sticking occassionaly..

Hi

Is it really reving up, in gear, and accelerating hard? If so (sounds like it as you mention it happening in 2nd gear) then pretty much the only thing it can be is the throttle sticking open.

As mentioned above, check the cables, also check the linkage at the carb. However, at 1000 miles / 2 months old I presume it is under warrenty so take it back to the dealer and get them to sort it.

If the throttle is sticking like that I would be dubious about riding it. Could potentially get very nasty.

If it is just reving up when the clutch is pulled then there are a few other things, such as a cracked carb rubber mount / poorly seated carb. However this is unlikely to have any noticeable affect when in gear with the engine under load.
