Sadly, in some cases it can be the same for stuff like wind turbines.

Look at the amount of energy going into making the turbine and the masses of concrete; and CO2 emissions from that suddenly don't seem quite so environmentally friendly.

It'd be nice if there was some 'universal' way to measure such things, so that everything from a packet of crisps to a new office building could be measured on the same scale.

However, I suspect it'd either be far too complex or would unfairly show some as worse than others (which companies would claim anyway).

Energy cost per mile used in the report sounds a slightly ambiguous way of working it out - as some energy may cost more but be 'greener'.

Yeah. I realised that. Hopefully they will eventually release the proper report with the actual facts and figures, rather than the retarded method of 'dollars per mile'.

The problem with hybrids in particular is the rather nasty problem of producing, replacing and disposing of the batteries. I'm not saying that they are environentally unfriendly, but that is something that need to be thought about and fixed or the environmental plusses will be offset by the manufacturing difficulties.

good MPG is certainly possible with old tech , putting tons of accessories which distract drivers = more weight = more energy ,

its sort of like taking a pillion crushes your MPG , strangely enough my NT does not suffer this , as I travelled far and wide with 400+ litres of luggage on the back and my MPG was more or less the same.
