 |
|
https://www.cnwmr.com/nss-folder/automotiveenergy/
The Dust-to-Dust automotive research project is complete, and available in 'non-technical' (read 'American') format
Anyway... It is a huge study that takes into account every bit of energy and cost consumed in making, owning and disposing of a car. With such factors as :
| Quote: | This includes such minutia as plant to dealer fuel costs, employee driving distances, electricity usage per pound of material used in each vehicle and literally hundreds of other variables. |
What this boils down to, is that people want to know what is really energy efficient and green. For example recently many people have been buying Hybrid vehicles, blindly suckered into believing that they will save the planet. The cold hard truth is that a Hybrid Honda Accord will cost 50% more energy over it's lifetime than a normal, non Hybrid Accord.
| Quote: | And while many consumers and environmentalists have targeted sport utility vehicles because of their lower fuel economy and/or perceived inefficiency as a means of transportation, the energy cost per mile shows at least some of that disdain is misplaced.
For example, while the industry average of all vehicles sold in the U.S. in 2005 was $2.28 cents per mile, the Hummer H3 (among most SUVs) was only $1.949 cents per mile. That figure is also lower than all currently offered hybrids and Honda Civic at $2.42 per mile. |
So then... what do you do? Walk? ____________________ Bikes: too many, too much for one man to maintain anyway. |

What do I do?
I help people get oil out of the ground.
And you love it. What would you do if someone tried to get rid of the internal combustion engine, the beating heart of your bike? With no petrol to burn or oil to lubricate, we'd be buggered*.
*Yes, I know that's not strictly true, but bear with me. ____________________ I must not be a troll...

good MPG is certainly possible with old tech , putting tons of accessories which distract drivers = more weight = more energy ,
its sort of like taking a pillion crushes your MPG , strangely enough my NT does not suffer this , as I travelled far and wide with 400+ litres of luggage on the back and my MPG was more or less the same. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die.
