Why are so many other bike and scooter riders such total ar******s when it comes to parking sensibly in bike bays in london.
Every day I go back to my bike after work and find some t**t has squeezed his bike/scooter up next to me making it virtually impossible for me to get on my bike, or move it.
And they bend my mirrors up out of the way.
I've already had my bike knocked over once in the last few months (it was left upright but with oil leeking out the bottom) and am sick of people behaving with no thought for others' property.

For those of you with no f*****g manners, be prepared to get your f*****g bike moved out of the marked bay - and I hope you get a ticket.

rant over

yes its annoying happens every day without fail, another thing, the usual bay I park in theres just 1 post to chain the bike to. I get there normally just before 7 and its empty, for the last three days, theres a bike there no chain just a disc lock right next to the post. Its just been parked because the exhaust is still warm. Yes ok its first come first served but when theres the whole bay to choose from and you're not going to chain it up then at least let someone else have the use of it

There are just not enough bays in London anymore.

When I started commuting into Leicester Square by scooter in 1998, I could always get a space in the bay bu the National Gallery, right up to 10am. Nowadays if you go in, most bays are full by 9 & it's a struggle to find anywhere.

I once parked in a bay in Dover Street, early for a meeting to find a scooter had jammed himself up to the side of my bike, scratching it in the process. It wasn't too difficult to lift it up, outside of the bay and leave it...no doubt a traffic warden would be along shortly and ticket him - he deserved it.

The obvious solution is to allows bikes to park on yellow lines for free in designated 'bike parking roads', where there is no chance of causing jams. However 'obvious' and 'solution' are words that don't exist in TfL's, Borough of Westminster's or our Government's vocabulary, so it's case of enduring what is an ever worsening situation. came back to the bike last night to find some idiot scooter rider had parked so close to my bike it had snapped one of my indicators off Evil or Very Mad (Knew it was him because it was wedged between his bodywork and mine) moved the scooter but will get my revenge when I put one of those helmet cable locks through his wheel (got quite a collection free with various bike mags over the years) and wd his tyres

I believe all NCP car parks have bike bays.

I always use the NCP when I decide to ride in. They have a couple of hundred bays/ground anchors, and usually about 5 bikes.

Cost's £2 per day. Or use an outside bay!?

Kind of a no brainer really!!!

Thumbs Up

It's the same where I live and I live in a small town. There are only two bike parking bays in the whole of the town. More than often there is a car parked in them. There are no posts so we have to make do. I came to my bike yesterday to find the bike next to me had it's chain wrapped round mine. (Linked together so we can both unlock them but so they are chained to each other). I had a note on my bike that read ' Do you mind if we chain our chains together as there is less chance of our bikes being nicked' I left a reply saying 'Why not'.

So now me and this other guy just chain our bikes together. Sorted.

I flip if someone leaves a finger print on my baby, let alone knock my indicator or adjust my mirrors.

Here in South Africa we dont have many bike bays so we just park right on the sidewalks. People dont mind cos everyone enjoys looking at bikes Laughing

I was in London recently and noticed how many bikes were crammed into bike bays compared to a civilised city like Brum. You just need more spaces, doubling the parking provisions in the city would have very little impact on the streets due to the small amount of space taken by a bike in comparison to a car, it would of course encourage more people to use bikes to reach the hell hole that is central London.

As previously said it's the congestion charge that has caused a load of plonkers to go out and buy scooters. They can't ride, can't park them and generally just PISS ME OFF!

I fonund a scooter had twisted my mirror back the other week (not for the 1st time), I wrote a note and put it on his bike telling him if it ever happened again then he would come back to find his bike in a pile in the middle of the road.

I like the idea about the bike lock, not so sure about the WD40 though, you could end up with a manslaughter charge if he killed himself.

It's a good idea. There's actually a scheme going for it: https://www.lock2lock.co.uk/
