I have been doing some quote for the bike that i collect tomorrow and due to 0NCB, 1 Fault Claim, and 18 isnt making for good quotes.

When i was quoted for the SV TPFT worked out cheaper than TPO but now this isnt the case. My lowest quote:
Arrow £1200 TPFT
Arrow £654.53 TPO

There is no way I'm going to pay £1200 for insurance, the bike in question had an data tool system 3 alarm and will be fairly secure at home and in a low risk area. I probably couldn't afford to claim if it did get stolen as would make me uninsurable (or at a very high price).

Would you risk it?

It's the claim that's killing you Andy, you might have to take this one on the chin. Just phone round and get as much as you can knocked off the price.

I'm TPO. I bought a big f'ing lock with the money I saved.

The bike is also worth less than a grand, if it was more than that, I most likely wouldn't risk it.

Yea, i knew it would be a killer but i thought id get TPFT for less than a grand. I think this time next year TPFT will be much more affordable. If it was stolen and claimed it would be extreme.

I rang 6 companies tonight, do the rest tomorrow as travelled back from Bath so bit tired and need to go out Laughing

Here is my progress so far, all the people that quoted me said there wasnt much leeway for haggling as claim and 0NCB

A good point. The only reason I went with TPFT is because it was cheaper than TPO for some odd reason. I don't know if I'd even make a theft claim if it was nicked, the excess and the extra insurance could quite easily destroy the value of the claim.

Great to see you back on a bike Andy. Very Happy If you're taking it to uni, I'll be in Somerset after Easter holidays, we should go on a blatt.

Tis true, it has been known for TPFT to be cheaper than TPO. Not in my case though. And at £800 to insure my bandit, I needed to save every penny I could.

Well IMO it's because you have a 2003 Triumph at 18 also with no NCB and a claim.

Whenever I have done insurance quotes on any bikes, Triumph always seem to be more expensive to insure.

If I was in your situation, I would have bought a much cheaper older bike until I had some NCB on me.

An older bike would have been better suited for the cause in my opinion too.

I'm surprised that the insurance company are quoting TPO for a bike thats still relatively new.

The Four is effectively a naked, midrange tuned TT600, and I was getting quotes of about £700 TPO I think. 18, 1NCB, no claims, 3 points. I can't remember what I was getting for the Speed 4, but it wasn't much cheaper. So Jon might have a point, it could be your choice of bike. Have you tried quoting on an SV for poops and giggles, you might find the claim hasn't gone against you too badly.

Yea, i completely agree, i wasnt expecting it to be a cheap insruance quote but never really thought about going TPO, £650TPO i think is fair for my situation.

I was going to get a RVF400 but all the owners wanted crazy money and i think that would have been cheaper to insure (though not by all that much)

I have 3 years NCB, but I'm 26 so I guess getting old does have its perks.

I was quite amazed as its with Bennetes that price! Everyone else wanted about £20 a month TPO.

TPO for a couple of years shouldn't be too bad because if you think about the amount you're saving, then it's pretty silly. I'm only on TPFT because it was cheaper than TPO in the first year and on my ZX6R, it was only something like a 5 quid difference. TPO is well worth it if you have a rat bike or value it less than 1200 or so where the cost of the excess and claim will have severe implications when you go get your next bike.

Almax chain and 20 quid alarm and cover and chance it Thumbs Up

It sure does Razz Embarassed 1 year NCB age 40+ full comp on a divvy £84.
Type of bike really does make a diffrence to the quote, My renewal for the ZZR 250 was £109. Cannot for the life of me work that one out as divvy is newer and faster. Very Happy

For some odd reason my insurance, more then halfed on renewal and i didnt even have to fone them! Im not complaining

Are you not fancying an SV again?

MY insurance is similar, messed up through no fault of my own.

Have you tried Express insurance?

Thumbs Up

Yea i left it and went to uni and was saving money up for when i felt ready for a bike again, i believe that im ready and though a bursery that Bath uni gave me im able to afford it (plus my overdraft)

I knew it was going to be silly quotes but thought the difference between TPO and TPFT would be much smaller.

I dont fancy a SV, TBH i was thinking of upgrading when i had my off (though it would have been an expensive thing to do with uni around the corner). Like i said in your SV thread, the suspension was just horrible and was planing to change the internals of the forks when i had time, as i was using it all the time i never got round to it Rolling Eyes

MY insurance is similar, messed up through no fault of my own.

No, only tried 4-5 so far as got in 4pm and rang a few, think they were Hastings, Carol Nash, Bennetts, MCD and another. I have a list i will be calling tomorrow though

My advice mate, buy a Fast Bikes magazine and call EVERY single insurer in the bleedin' thing. You're bound to get a pretty reasonable rate after that.

But you'll have probably spent that much on telephone bills Laughing

Run a quote through https://www.insurance2000.co.uk/motorcycle/motorcycle.asp

They have a scheme with the NIG which is very competitive and aimed at riders under 25.

But you will probably struggle to get a really cheap quote, at 18 with a fault claim you are a 'moral hazard' and not many insurers will quote at all on that basis Sad

Just go TPO and get a big lock and chain Thumbs Up
