OK so set off traffic was terrible all down the motorways but tbh I enjoyed the chance to filter it was ace! managed to get to work ten min early so I thought park up get changed jobs a good un!!

Went to park up, slipped with my right foot lost balance then the bike went on to my right leg (way too heavy for me) had to let her go down. Which was a bit gutting as its the first time I have let her go down. I have crash bars all round the engine which was still running. Press the kill switch. I had actually fell over cause my leg got stuck so I could not gracefully jump off.

Went to pick her up OMFG i could not even budge it! SOOOO heavy. Hurt my back trying. Luckily one of the lads from work heard my engine rev as i went down and so he came out and picked her up for me. Mirror is scratched and my GIANT givi box but other than that the engine bars took it all and just kinda made the bike hover on the floor. Even the exhaust didnt touch the floor despite being on that side down.

Once she was up tried to start her didnt work. Just sounded like it wanted to but it didnt. Eventually she started.

Why wouldnt she start?

Is there anything else I should check her for? No petrol spilled out or anything and as I said she started after a bit so I let her run.

What a day. Despite the little blip I throughly enjoyed the ride it was ace filtering through the traffic that I am normally stood in.

I am a little sore only from the fall itself wish I could have remained standing!!! And my back from trying to pick her up!

If the engine bars were the only thing to go down then you should be fine.

Reason it wouldnt start was probably flooded carbs when the bike went down. Nothing to worry about.

Gotta happen some time hasnt it Thumbs Up

liquids in the engines and carbs going the wrong way,

for example when I lowslided my cg it wouldnt start for a few minutes, I put it down to oil going all to one side of the engine along with carbs being shook up.

Cheers

Yeah the non starting is nothing to worry about, bikes don't really enjoy being on their side.

The petrol has sloshed out of the carbs (most likely into the airbox via an overflow) and other such things.

Mine always used to dump a ton of crap into the airbox, which would then burn, and therefore smoke like a red arrow for the next 10 miles.

Unlucky about dropped it, and there's a thread somewhere about how to pick your bike up safely, using your legs and your bum rather than your back.

Ah yeah I remember that!!! You stick your bum against it!
I might try this at home some time just lay her down lightly and try picking her up see if it works. I have seen some small woman do it with a pan!

Dont panic as said it not unusual for a bike to do that after they have been laid over.
Both of my kwakas did it.

Just leave it there while ya at work and dont worry about it.
Chances are it will be right to go when you are finished.
Everything settled back where it should be.
Just dont be tempted to keep turning it over and over else you will end up with a dead battery.
Leave it as long as you can before you try again.

You may also find a bump start may be required.
Seemed to work for me but I was heading down hill

Also dont worry too much if when you get it going it runs as rough as gutts for a few miles.

Ive found riding it until it starts to lose power and then just giving the throttle a bit of a back and forth for a bit seems to clear it out.

It will sort itself so dont get too worked up about it Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

I did this with the ER-5 in a carpark back home. The worst bit is when it's just tipped over the point where you could still get it back up, but you're still kinda supporting it with your leg and your hands on the bars. No matter how hard you try you can't save it, but you don't want to have to let it go. Bad luck.

Oh Cath, I read that and felt that 'oh shit' moment with you as the bike reaches the point of no return and you helplessly try to get out of the way!

I hope your shoulders/back etc are feeling better. Thumbs Up

You'd got to drop the bike at some point, so better a slow descent in a car park with people to help than in the middle of a busy junction (like what I managed to do... Embarassed)

Ride home was ok but I was a little nervous about it don't know why. Seems it made me a bit un nerved! The wind was awful on the motorway battering my head left and right ended up quite dizzy by the time I got to the petrol station near home.

Didnt come on the bike today as my back is really sore so gave it a miss. Hopefully back on her again tomorrow as the weather is lovely and I hope my back feels better.

Quite scary though knowing that I cant pick my own bike up if she ever fell over Sad
If you have ever met me I am not a small lass and I "thought" I was fairly strong, ah well there is always a nice man around to lend a hand.

Don't think like that! Keep that legs & bum technique in mind and feel confident you'd be able to lift it if you ever needed to again Thumbs Up

In the enthusiasm to get your 'bike back upright, be careful not to get carried away and flip it over on to the other side...

Not that I've ever done, this, oh no... Rolling Eyes

You had the engine on thus the point of no return is very very late (ie when the back wheel ceases to touch the road) , HOLD ON you won't be able to hold it for long. But you won't have the power to lift it either.

so...

If there is space enough for it , full lock to the side you are falling over onto in your case the right cus of the side of the can, (this doesn't matter massively btw)

dig your foot in pushing up and while applying SOME gas and it should recover it.

This is highly useful for filtering since you can enter traffic at right angles, and save yourself without dropping it is somebody is undetaking in a bus lane.

YMMV however , my NTV does this perfek and weighs more.
