 |
|
Hey There
I bought this Gilera Dna 50 (2003, 2500miles on clock) about 2 months ago and after the first month there was a problem. Its seems theres no spark in the plug (tried earthing it, nothing) and when I go to start it (does turn over), the petrol light and oil light both come on (theres full tank of petrol and oils full) I tried changing the spark plug, cap, hd leads, cdi unit but nothing :S Im quickly running out of ideas, already costing me enough trying to run it with insurance nevermind the parts! coming up to my exams and i have no transport . Any Ideas or Suggestions will be greatly thank'd!
Thanks Kris |

Chances are its stator failure... as its very common on all the piaggio 50cc models.
Its what makes the electricity needed to create the spark, the battery is only there for accessory devices ie starter, indicators etc... The starter provides main power for ignition and headlights, thats why your lights get brighter when the bikes rpm increases
RH side of the engine, youll see the plastic cover with FAKE nuts on it, its behind there, and its multiplug is just in front if it near the waterpump pipe.
The only other thing which can cause spark issues on a DNA is water in the speedo unit, as the speedo is supplied with a direct feed from the CDI unit, if the speedo gets wet and shorts out, it grounds the CDI to earth and no spark... its simple to check, just unplug the speedo and see it it starts!
But my moneys on stator! |

Yeah looks like it... you can try taking the clocks apart, and leaving the electrical board in a warm place (airing cupboard etc) for a couple of days, then refit it and see how it goes. |

A little drop of silicone under the buttons and a packet of silica gel under the circuit board and they never play up again.... |
