|
|
ok im getting my bike serviced next thursday as there is a quiet ticking noise coming from the head, more noticable when cold at low rpm. Im having the valve clearances reset, he's checking the CCT, balancing the carbs, checking cylinder compression and replacing sparkplugs (had oil and filter done a few weeks ago).
So my question is, could riding the bike until thursday damage the engine if its just the valve clearances that are out? theres no loss in performance, and too be honest the ticking isnt too noticable?
any help appreciated ____________________ ''He had the confidence of a baby-goat dared to tickle a t-rex's nutsack'' |

As long as valve clearances are ok at the normal riding temperature, then if they are a bit noisy when cold it's nothing to worry about. The normal "don't thrash it until it's warm" applies really ____________________ Current: CB500 Previous: CB100N, CB250RS, XJ900F, GT550, GPZ750R/1000RX, AJS M16, R100RT, Enfield Bullet

most likely the valve clearances. Cam chain would probably snap before long if it was that.
Mine is in for a service today, has had the tappety noise for over 1200 miles, told the dealer when it started but they said it was fine and i will kick up a big fuss if they dont check the clearances as its really the only reason im letting them service it ____________________

Cheers toby, the CCT has been replaced before, but at 38K miles i suppose it could be it again, but the noise does persist when the bikes warm so i now think its the cam chain which to my knowledge hasnt been changed before, but im guessing it has at some point.
So il get him to have a good look at the cam chain .
Also if it is the CCT and cam chain instead of/aswell as valve clearances that need sorting, what effect could riding it until next week have? if it was your bike would you not ride it because of this? ____________________ ''He had the confidence of a baby-goat dared to tickle a t-rex's nutsack'' |

Erm if it's ticking when warm I wouldn't risk it mate, how many miles are you thinking of doing? I'd probably van it to the garage. |

Ok i took it in to the mechanic early, just to get his opinion on the noise, and to my relief, apparently it cant be the cam chain or sprockets as the noise isnt coming from there? he also said that the noise is hardly noticable and nothing to worry about and that the service next week will sort it (got new CCT for £30 anyway so might aswell fit that to), so maybe its just me being paraniod an its just slight valve noise? (im new to 4-strokes ).
Oh well i guess il find out on thursday cheers anyway people . ____________________ ''He had the confidence of a baby-goat dared to tickle a t-rex's nutsack'' |
