Just use a 3-phase one and only connect one of the yellows.

A superdream one would seem to fit the bill.

Or try www.davidsilverspares.co.uk they sometimes have old bits like that in stock and are sometimes pretty cheap.

I for one am shocked to hear there is still a G5 out there in something approaching running order.

Well a superdream one has a red wire which you connect to the battery positive, a green one you connect to earth and a white on black one you connect to somewhere in the loom carrying battery voltage when the ignition is on (eg back brakelight switch) or if you're feeling lazy, loop it back to the red wire (not as good but still functional).

There are three yellows. If you have a single phase, connect it to one of them and blank off the other two.

you may be able to replace it with a bridge rectifer from maplin or farnell

it will be a lot cheaper too
look for a 15A one giving you a good safety margin on the wattage

i got a 35a one, a 15a would be right on the edge, and probly would go over in high revs,
turns out i didnt need it any way, as there was a couple of broken wires on one of the plugs

Aye. Having looked at your wiring diagram on your other post, it actually has a bridge rectifier anyway, should be pretty robust.

If it's the same as the one off my old CB125 was (same year as the 250G5, 15mph faster Razz ), it's just a cluster of diodes right? You'd be able to replace all four for a couple of quid if it went tits-up.

its a solid unit, but inside it, its just 4 diodes, if push came to shove then you could just use individual diodes, but bridge rectifiers are really easy to get hold of from any electronics store,

yeah the g5 ain't too fast, happily cruises at about 75 with un balanced carbs, but takes a while to get there Very Happy
was the 125 a twin as well, or just half a 250 Very Happy

The 125 was a twin. They were well regarded wee bikes. I ran mine for a year before both carbs and most of thewiring system dissolved into a pile of white powdery terminal obsolescence.

I blame it on the Japanese wanting you to buy lots of new motorcycles instead of keeping your old ones.
