Stuck Banjo bolt...

Hi,

Im the process of changing a brake line (thanks for the guide Stinkwheel) however I cant undo the banjo bolt on my caliper.
Its on there damn tight and Im afraid of snapping it.

The one on the master cyliner was also tight but a little force and it was off.

Any ideas on how I could free the bolt on the caliper?

keep it attached to its bracket if possible and get a breaker bar and aa socket and give it a right good push. lol if it breaks off inside then i can only suggest taking it to a local mech to be repaired, my caliper was seized so badly they had to heat it up and now have a 2 tone caliper.

Try and heat the banjo bolt up with a blow torch while you turn it, its a bit risky as brake fluid is flammable but heat is the best bet for a seized bolt/nut.



(you can get a cheap blow torch from halfords for around £20)

Try tightening the bolt a little bit before undoing it

aye, tightening can "crack" it making it easier to undo it, nice one

It can also damage it.

I reccommend doing it when it's hot or cold (most objects, brick, wood, metals...contract in the cold)...but heat can be good too, it loosens them off.

it will only damage it if you go crazy wit it, where talking a 1mm tighter then when u hear the click sound you will be able to undo it way easier than before.

Get some freeze and release spray. Spray liberally, leave to stand. Spray again and undo.

heat the caliper around the bolt, hasnt failed me yet.

i usually find that a good six sided socket ,T bar and a length of pipe for an extension works.Dont bounce or jerk,just apply decent pressure and it should go.
