 |
|
Hi my bike (cbr600fx) has just developed a knocking noise sounds similar to a chain slipping round a sprocket and doesnt have a set timing pattern but is a lot worse when bike is on centre stand , in any gear ticking over i just bought a whole new chain and sprocket set thinking it was the worn front sprocket and chain but its still there ! could anyone help me with what it could be ?

Sounds like the cam chain tensioner, I have a 2000 FY and it's a common issue.
It won't do any harm but can be annoying.
Here's a detailed description on how to fix it yourself.
https://www.bossturbo.com/cbr/howto_cct.shtml
Some people have been know to change them and it goes again only a few '000 miles later.
The only real way to stop it is to fit a manual one. I couldn't be arsed with that.

It sounds like its from the gearbox though and if you watch the rear wheel running in gear when it knocks the back wheel jerks as if there were teeth missing on a gear somewhere but the revs dont die and theres no major sound from the front of the engine but this has only happened over about 80miles it was fine before then while i was on a ride it just got progressively worse now it does it constantly like in the video i posted, its just such a pain it happened before im meant to be going away to a few places for x-mas |

Is it possible you may have overtightened the chain Could be wheel bearing or front sprocket bearing. If it's the wheel bearing or sprocket carrier bearing you should be able to feel it when you turn the wheel by hand. If not, remove the front sprocket cover and check for play in the shaft. |

Looks to me like you're idling the bike with it on the stand and in gear. Sounds like back-lash in the gears because your idle is so rough. Balance your carbs and it will go away. I would stop doing it in any case before you damage the gearbox.
Ride the bike on the road under gentle power and I bet you don't hea anything. If you do, your chain it too tight or you have a knackered bearing in your rear wheel/sprocket carrier. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

Does it still knock when the wheel isnt moving? could be bearings in the rear wheel, but i'm probably way out with this suggestion. I hope you sort it out. ____________________ Haz ER-5, innit! |
