quick question, what do people have against fair weather riders, or weekend warriors?
I would probably class myself as a fair weather rider, why ride the bike in bullshit weather, use the car so much more practical.
Reading peoples replys on the, "what do you hate about riding" thread, fair weather bikers and weekend warriors popped up quite alot. Why do other riders dislike them so much. And as for the wearing full leathers but not having worn in sliders thing, so what atleast there wearing leathers right, most everyday riders I see are in jeans, trainers and a textile jacket at the most.
Whats your take on this? Why such hatred towards the fair weather, weekend warriors? ____________________ My Two Babys- 2007 Stealth YZF-R1- 2006 K6 Suzuki GSXR750 Track Bike

Im not a fan of riding in shit weather, but it is a buzz when i get home safely. After riding everyday this winter, through all types of weather, all i can say is i cant wait for summer.
But each to their own. I do give Garnsie shit for being a girl and putting his bike away for the winter just past though |

i actually enjoy riding in shit conditions, not because i can say im hard, but simply because i am i like the feeling of drifting in the snow, and will actively go in search of adverse conditions.
riders who refuse to ride in bad weather, deserve to be looked down apon not as muchas a car driver. but still looked down on
lol, just kidding, i dont mind weekend warriors really, but they are the ones who increase our insurance rates, as the warmer weather hit, more rider who have retired o the cages for the winter come out, and they think they are till as good as the end of the previous year. and end up sacking it,

Hummmm this is very interesting. People actually enjoy riding in the rain and snow! Now I didn't see that coming. I don't think I'm afraid of riding in the rain or snow, its just cold and wet, not going to harm you, Im just afraid of laying the bike down.
Where's the fun in riding in those conditions, you can't do anything, can't push the bike hard in rain and snow. Is it the thrill of getting from a-b alive that makes you do it.
As for weekend warriors holding the more experienced everyday rider up is to be expected though right, you ride everyday, your constantly improving your riding style/technique. If your not quicker than the fair weather riders then it is you who can't ride.
And as for the whole litre bike thing, so what right, thats all personal choice. I'm a fairweather rider but by no means did I just jump on my r1. I had a zxr400, gsxr600, gsxr750, and now an r1. And yes I clean and polish it all the time. Just want it to be pristine and well maintained.
In my opinion the excuses so far are pretty shitty, riding in shit conditions by no means makes you more of a rider than someone who likes to hit the twistys on a sunny day. ____________________ My Two Babys- 2007 Stealth YZF-R1- 2006 K6 Suzuki GSXR750 Track Bike

T'was only a matter of time before this cropped up again..
Fair weather bikers are a fairly recent phenomenon, since before our recent illusion of grandeur and supposed wealth, motorcycles were a primitive but cheap form of transport. Easily worked on and accessible transport meant many chose bikes because of cost. A big overcoat and a set of goggles were all you needed for a snowy ride to the shipyard for another ten hour day...
Nowadays many choose to own motorcycles purely for the thrills, using other forms of transport when the weather isn't so great, or just to take the brunt of load carrying / family things etc. It is deemed today that a car is a necessary tool for the modern family. They can afford to use these machines purely on days when biking is most fun.
Meanwhile younger riders or those who do not necessarily need or want a car, or those that cannot afford both and choose a bike over a car, ride on the roads in all weathers. These riders will encounter the worst the British weather can throw at them, often clock up many dreary miles trudging up sodden motorways or A-roads whilst their undergarments are most certainly soaked. Others, who are often found to have chosen a bike over a car, or those who still own a car but choose to use the bike 99% of the time, can grit their teeth, wear their fully waterproof gear, turn up the heated grips and carry on in a level of comfort our older biking relatives could only dream of.
There was always going to be friction when the two groups met.
"Why should we put up with all the shite the whole year, only to get the power rangers swan up to bike meets on sunny Sundays on mint sportsbikes? They're not real bikers!"
"Why don't they just get a car and use the bike like we do? They can't enjoy the winter, they must be mad!"
Well the argument will continue until the next credit crunch, when those that own bikes as 'toys' will sell them, and those that use them year round will stay on them. C'est la vie and all that.
Meanwhile I suggest we try to get on and continue to try to support all bikers, especially those in distress by the roadside, in these nanny state times when biking's future is most under threat.
Bleugh I'm rambling and work's slow. ____________________ NSR125RR - ZXR750H1 - ZX9R E1 - GSF600S - GSF600SK3 - VFR400-NC30 - SV1000N - ST1100-R - CBR900RR-R - GSF1200SK5 - GSF600SK1 - VFR1200FA - GSXR1000K2 - ZZR1400 D8F
