Your top end looks completely shagged in all honesty.
The pitting on the cylinder head is way yo much to get away with.

Same as the piston.

Even with the low quality photos you can see the barrel is also damaged a fair bit.

these prices are for official OE honda parts from

www.davidsilverspares.com

(NS parts seem to cost more than NSR for some reason...)

NS125F/RK : Cylinder barrel and piston .... £99.00
NS125F/RK : Cylinder base gasket .... £2.50
NS125F/RK : Cylinder head gasket .... £10.00
NS125F/RK : Piston ring set .... £22.00

You'd have to send them an email about other such parts like small end bearings, gudgeon pin, and the cylinder head. (shouldn't be any more than £30 as the NSR is only £20)

Wouldn't buy second hand mate - maybe the barrel can be recoated (they skim it first then ass a new coating onto it) the piston - GET A NEW ONE!!!

First thing would be to get it to a specialist as it isn't something you are likely to sort yourself. A dealer or a replater should be able to sort but it won't be cheap!!!!

For the cost of replatinmg the barrel you might aswell by the Barrel and piston kit.

As a re plate will cost £100.
So you might aswell go for new. All in all if its just the top end that dieing your looking at a good £170 on parts.

Thats your cost if you do it yourself.
Labour i'd add another £80 on top of that.

What exactly happened to the bike?
Looks like parts of the piston broke up and then bounced round the bore a few thousand times Thumbs Up

Hi

That piston is scrap. Well, it might make an ash tray.

The head might clean up. For the best performance then you should replace it, but if you clean up all the sharp edges then it should work OK (the sharp bits would get hot and could cause detonation).

The bits of the barrel I can see look like they have bits of piston smeared on them. If that is all the damage then it can be cleaned up. If it is scored then it needs replating (around £100 plus a piston) or replacing (around £100 with a piston, but plus rings).

I would suspect that you have either had a ring snap, or a circlip jump out. Then the remains have bounced around the combustion chamber, getting hammered between the piston and head.

By the way, with the corrosion it looks like there is not enough antifreeze in there. When you rebuild it make sure there is enough in the coolant.

All the best

Keith

The two stroke oil i was using was a good make i think, i'll try and dig the name out tomorrow.

I was talking to the guy who i bought the bike off today.
I was joking to him about the "dodgy" engine in that bike and how it locked up on me.
He then said that has happened to him before with the bike! Shocked
He said it's not cut out for that kind of constant runing and high speeds Liar

He's kinda right, 2 stroke bikes don't like sitting at constant high revs over a long period of time, you need to vary the revs.

lilldic_mossy,

I got a piston, head and barrel if you want them.

If you want to see some pics of them, just say and I'll post them here.

Maybe we can talk a price afterwards.

Ian.

See your messages box lilldic_mossy.

The bits are from a NS125R, the year is 1990.

When you rebuild the bike, check out the oil pump (2 stroke pump), also use a cooler spark plug, as this looks like it's got too hot.

Ah this takes me back, mine over heated and siezed 100yards from home! Welded the barrel to the piston, right carry on to fix it, Barrel, piston, gasgets, clips, rings, head all in excess of £350! Could have cried. I could have had the barrel reboared for £150, wasn't worth it. Bare in mind tho people, when you buy the barrel and piston set from honda, you get no rings with it! they are £30 extra! Real rip off merchants. The little clips for the piston to rod are £20! Wish I knew about this forum back in sept. Could have saved some money! Oh well.
