My oil light came on on the way home today but halfords was already shut.
I need to travel about 8miles tomorrow early in the morning.
If i was desperately low on oil, would it wreak the engine if I put a small bit of normal oil in there?
Cheers,

Normal oil?
You just need to fill up with 2-stroke oil, personally i wouldnt go anywhere with an oil light on without checking the oil tank first to make sure there was sufficient oil, and even then i would only be travelling to the nearest place that sells oil.
If, by normal oil, you mean mixing two different brands of 2-stroke oil, you will be fine! Im unsure by your post, wether you are getting confused with gearbox oil? Might be just me..

I am leaving so early in the morning that there is going to be no where open selling oil. I have just been to tescos but they are sold out.
I think I should be ok on what I have got as I have kept an eye on the actual oil level in the tank since the light came on earlier. ____________________ ***Previous: GPR50, FZ750 *** Current: Monkey bike, yella SV 650 ***

try vegetable oil... its the same consistency as 2 stroke oil (near enough) and if its soon to be topped up with 2 stroke, i doubt it will do much harm. ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. If I was absolutely desperate, I'd maybe use a non-detergent straight 30 grade oil as a substitute. Given that it's what people used prior to the invention of two stroke specific oil, it'll work. Then again, engines weren't as highly tuned at the time.
Even then, I'd be emptying the oil tank out before putting anything new in afterwards, so if there's still proper two stroke left, use it - just don't let it run out.
(There's no real reason why vegetable oil wouldn't work in a two stroke, but agree with the above - you don't want to be mixing it with mineral oil. If you were pre-mixing, fair enough, but otherwise it's a bad idea) ____________________ Current garage: VFR800 FI-W | RD500LC YPVS | SV650 K2 | MZ TS250/1 | MZ ETZ251 | BSA WDB40
