80.
T-boned a flatbed truck on my ZX6R while commuting to work.
Was doing 60 down an A road, truck pulled out of a side road and didn't look right.
Was able to brake and leaned left to try to avoid it, probably slowed to 45-50.
Me:
Both wrists broken.
Broken right shoulder blade. (fairing cage was bent forward and hit my shoulder)
Broken right thumb, lifted nail and split skin needing 1 stitch!
Cuts to right hand.
2nd degree burn to right calf. Skin graft will be needed.
Fracture to floor off right eye socket. Needs reconstructing.
8 day stay in hospital needed.
Bike:
Too many to list - front end completly smashed.
Written off.
At least 2 months off work!
Edit:
Photos! No xrays yet though

My first ever spill
Came off one of the roundabouts at the Orbital in Cannock, it's a bit of a blur now but I'd come to a stop behind two cars which had decided to sit there despite a complete lack of traffic on the roundabout (LH lane, I was going straight on) I decided to pull into the RH lane and cut the roundabout (stupid I know) but must have given it far too much throttle and ended up with the front end of the bike flailing about beneath me; By the time I'd come to a stop my arse and the bike was on the pavement just off the roundabout.
Pretty minor damage to me, my knees and hips are bruised but nothing much.
The bike however
- Engine casing has road rash
- 3 seperate fairing panels on the front and LH side of the bike are cracked and have pieces missing.
- Some front-end damage I've not figured out yet. I think the forks are slightly twisted, as are the bars. One/both of the rotors now drags on the caliper for every turn of the wheel. Could just be a warped rotor?
Anyway, it's pretty trivial compared to some of these; and worst of all it's entirely my fault.
Karma to the van driver who pulled up and offered to take my bike home for me

82 (my second spill this year )
Going to work on Thursday, started filtering past a line of traffic, didn't see the milk floats indicator (if it was even there) as I filtered past at a junction (I know I shouldn't have done it but oh well) as I went past he starting turning and collided with me.
No damage to me, my foot was saved by my boot as the milk float ran over it. His passenger thought it was a cat
There was no damage to the milk float as it was at the back of it. The guy wrote his company name, phone number and reg number on a piece of paper for me in case I wanted to report him. He took my reg but didn't want anything else off me as he wasn't fussed. Just wanted to make sure I was OK.
Damage to my scooter, cracked the knee board panel again but on the other side this time. Also the impact broke my bodge superglue repair on the other (right) side of the panel so some plastic welding is in need. My rear indicator partially snapped off and the outer lens disappeared. Taped it back up so it's functional. New indicator won't cost much. Oh and I also bent my tax disc holder
Got off lightly though so it's not too bad. My scooter is now officially foooooked (cosmetically anyway).

86. came off my bike at a huge speed of 4mph, smashing the left wing mirror a week ago, luckily I some how saved all the fairing from a single scratch, replace the mirror for a total of £10. good as new.
Also I had a close call when overtaking this morning, damp road led my back wheel going out, on what can only be described as a power slide. Lasted for 2 secs, but was enough to make me do a little wee. ____________________ My current bikes are - YZF-R1 & GS 500 E

89,
Thought i would take a short cut across a large grass area to get to my house sunday morning after a night shift as the main road was closed due to a incident ( police had blocked the road don't know why ?) grass was wet, no problem i thought untill i just touched the back brake and had the bike sideways slideing and all of a sudden me flying though the air Never thought that mtx rear drum brakes where that good
Result....
Snapped indicater bracket
Snapped hand guard
bent foot peg
jammed thottle
cracked head light ( also full of grass and mud )
Snapped peak on my nearly new lazer x5
sqaushed nuts for me and a sore bloody leg... And burised ego as my neighbour saw it all happen and came running out to see if i was ok
Bike now in the local shop as it's not running right and new parts ordered from flea bay.... |

My first off- a minor one though. Friday 2nd October.
Cold morning, cold tires, wet floor... turning right out of a junction just down the road from my place...."ooh can i make it before that ford?...fuck it- yeh why not" (bad mistake)... open throttle, lose the back, sliding onto the right. Me on the floor looking up to watch my ZXR4 spinning on its RHS fairing .... come away with a couple bruises.
Managed to get the bike back up on the side of the road with the help of a BMW cage driver. Snapped both brake levers, slightly bent handlebar and scuffed exhaust and fairing, but carried on my 28mile to work and back home....
That's all. Complete newbie mistake. May not be so lucky next time eh? ____________________ www.artridertraining.co.uk |
