Gearbox got confused

Hi folks, I have just had the wierdest experience after atking my bike out today, I got on and rode out of my alleyway in first just fine, got to the main road and struggled to find second, then it would not go into first without a crunch at which point I noticed the lever felt like it was jammed up.

Anyhoo, I carried on trying to shift up and got no joy so pulled into a petrol station to take a look and see if there was anything obvious, I turned off the bike and tried to hand shift up through the gears - again first and second only and a wierd crunch type feeling as I did.

Then I couldnt find neutral at all and my bike will not allow me to start up with the clutch lever in which I dont quite understand, anyway after a bit of manual persuading of trying 1st to second for about 10 minutes it found neutral again so I started her up to try and ride around and see if I could get any more movement, third came a bit crunchy but eventually happened and then I could get the rest so I got my gear on and rode off steadily to see what happened.

After shifting through the entire box it suddenly went silky smooth, no clunking or notchiness at all, just sweet shifts.

Anyhoo, I am obviously a little concerned how this might have happened and if there is a possible cause for it that would need looking at, all I can think is that it got tangled up for some reason as the box now feels better than it ever has done before.

Any suggestions on what might have happened?

It would appear that you aren't aware that Kawasaki's will only go into 1st or neutral when the bike isn't moving..

Yeah but as per original post it wouldnt go past 2nd while moving in the first place, THEn wouldnt find neutral.

have these last few comments helped to answer the original question? no its just a bickering war! sorry dude cant help on your problem,it just annoys me when you ask a simple straight foward question and some numptys start a "yes you can no you can't"!!!

change ur oil and filter and look for any metle fileings sounds like it may have eaten a tooth or 2 something not right there drain it and see whats in it dont ride it till you have done it or if you have got fielings ur going to be throwing them all round the motor doing all kinds of nasty ness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Assuming its the bike in your avatar, i had the same prob with my J2 (same bike with different size engine) just grease all around the gear change lever with a quality grease. The problem is they are open to the elements and grit etc can get in them and this causes the problme you described i once had to ride 10 miles in 2nd gear on fast duals to get home, greased it and it was fine.
