Hi,
My battery was flat, so I decided to take out it so I could charge it. After doing that, I thought I may as well check the air filter while the bike isn't going anywhere. So I take the bolt off the tank and try to lift it up, but it's stuck. I go onto https://www.korider.com/ (for the first time) and have a search around, apparently you need to disconnect the fuel lines first.
Sounds easy? Again, apparently they are vacumed, so that when you take it off, no fuel leeks. I take the first line off, fine no problems, I take the next one off and fuel starts spurting out everywhere! I panic, grab a basin near by and try to catch as much as I can. It got so awkward that I had to go in and get some take away dishes which my mum keeps for cooking. In the mean time the fuel is dripping out and all over my bike. I ended up filling around 8 of the containers with fuel!
The garage floor turned in to a pool of fuel and my bike was/is dripping wet.
I put the hose on, trying to get it all out, then grab a brush and fairy liquid to scrub it off. Gave my bike a quick soak as well.
Then a guy from across the road comes over and says: "Have you spilt fuel again?" Again.... again! "Yea I was trying to...." "It's making me sick, again" he said This is the guy who's in his garage 24/7 building his own kitchen, the cheek! As if it's no bad enough that I've got fuel spilt everywhere, he comes over and nags at me - how does that help!

Would the best thing have been just to put the fuel line back on rather than filling up all your mums takeaway containers?
What you also could have done is found an off cutting of pipe, taken it from 1 part of the fuel tap to the other, thus no leaks and you can still remove your tank. |

I'd go shit on his lawn as well just to let him no whose boss! |
The next time he's out working in the garage, I should go and ask him to stop because the sawdust is blowing in my eyes...

Yes that would've been the best thing to do, unfortunately, it wasn't as easy as it sounds. The fuel tank was still attached by another two lines, meaning it would only lift up about 3cms. I couldn't get my hand in to find it and then shove it back in.
Eventually when it had semi drained, I managed to stop the flow because all the fuel was towards the back of the tank. This gave me time to find the line and push it back in.
| Kickstart wrote: | Suspect you had the fuel tap on "prime". Which means fuel flows even when the engine isn't running. On and reserve settings will probably need the engine to be running. |
I had the fuel tap switched to "off", presumed this would stop all fuel coming from the tank. Also I read that the hoses were vacuumed, again, suggesting that no fuel would come through.
Oh well... House smells a little of fuel now and I feel a little sick
Going to sort it all out tomorrow. ____________________ My Project - Honda CBR 600 F2/FM |

Check it really is "off". With a vacuum tap there is no need for an off position, so often the middle position is a prime setting (to allow fuel to flow when the engine isn't running, so filling the carbs if the carbs have been drained without having to crank the engine for ages).
All the best

It was the guys on the forum that insisted the lines were vacuumed But obviously not. While the fuel was pouring out, I started to change the fuel tap, moving it every way possible, but it wouldn't stop.
Anyway, I wouldn't dare go into the garage just yet, that would involve putting the light on and possibly blowing the house up ____________________ My Project - Honda CBR 600 F2/FM |

Hi
If there is a line from one of the inlets to the fuel tap then it is almost certainly a vacuum tap.
Entirely possible that the diaphragm in the tap is stuck so cannot cut off the fuel supply. To be honest it is worth sorting out. As it currently stands should one of the needle valves in the carb get stuck then the engine is quite likely to fill with most of the contents of the petrol tank while parked. Few years back I left the Bandit on prime by mistake and lost about 14L of petrol into the engine and airbox over night .
All the best

I hope that doesn't happen with me.. Actually, it won't, there's hardly any fuel left in the tank now Anyway, I just put the line that I pulled out back in, so all should be fine.
What was the result of all that fuel leaking into the engine and airbox? Was it repairable? ____________________ My Project - Honda CBR 600 F2/FM |

Hi
Just read that again. Am I right in thinking that there are 4 pipes to the fuel tap? If so sounds like a remotely mounted tap. Guess 2 pipes from the tank to the tap (one for fuel on, one for reserver), one vacuum pipe from the intake to the tap and one petrol pipe from the tap to the carbs? If so I suspect you disconnected one of the pipes from the tank to the tap.
All the best
