buy the bike if you want it... According to a US website I've just read, they measured it at 34.2 horses. It would be a very arsey copper who quibbled over 1bhp, especially when most Dynos have a tolerance of a few bhp!

An intake restrictor for one would be a stupid O ring with such a large hole that it is more like a circlip!

If I were you, I'd buy it and then put a cable tie around the throttle stop so you can't open the throttle those last couple of MM, and then it should make less than 33bhp... Smile

i thought so myself, but a bit of confusion keeps your mind going Laughing .

i knew it wasnt much more power, and i thought it might have lost that little bit over 33bhp over a few years.

i think ill go or it, and just ride it, its not like i've ever been stopped on the hornet (that i restricted myself).

cheers,

dudeskin

Is it the E or SM model you are looking at?

The E has a little more power, but the SM should be very close to 33hp if not on 33hp or below. I'd get it to a dyno first.

Im sure i heard my S version was just over, like 35-36 bhp

Surely then the SM is too ?

The S and SM should make the same power. May be just over, but should be close - will depend on the dyno and many other factors.

There is a difference between crank power and rear wheel power. I suspect that the police would go with a dyno reading which is at the wheel.

Run it on a dyno, £25 could save you £200 for a F1 international restriction kit.

They are alot of fun. I miss mine! They have loads of acceration and will cruise at 65/70. I changed the oil and filter every 1000miles. ( it only takes 1.7l so its not exactly costly) Very Happy

My mate and i went to Ireland last week and did 1000 miles and he was on a drz. So if anyone tells you that 'you cant'. They are a silly tit! Laughing In fact it was more comfy than my XJR (but i think thats because my seats lost its surport and my legs are a little to long for the bike!)

The drz puts out 35/36! They are just above the limit. Look on ebay. they're are always on for like 20quid, and they are not exactly hard to put in!

Depends what you're expecting, I guess.
It was about what I was expecting I found my DRZ-E engined CCM quite fun because it was low powered and really needed to be worked to keep at a semi-reasonable pace. They are neither light nor fast for what they are, but are an ok compromise of weight, power and reliability for back-roads and greenlining.

Whats greenlining Laughing

What power does the E model put out ? Ive just found out my S engine has been maintained so badly (from previous owners), someone has bodged the cam chain which overtime has broke the valves/seals, and there is a blockage in the water and now the piston and barrel has overheated and is just nackered. On ebay there is a whole E model engine going pretty cheap, so maybe get that one fitted in.

The uses a different carb I think, but shouldn't be too hard to do the swap.
The only makes a few more horsepower than the S - maybe 37/38.

Calm down... expecting a reply in under 30 minutes might be pushing it a bit Smile.

I expect you could get the old carb to work ok with the new engine, but you'd have to get it setup right (never a bad thing whatever).
