Charger or lap top?

I dont know which it is but its annoying me. My charger dosnt seem to want to work half the time and when it charges the lap top it just stops working and before you kow it the battery is dead and you have to insert it in and mess with it a bit before it workd again.

I am hopeing its the lead as that only costs £25 all together and i dont have to send it away for fixing as its the only computer i have at the min.

Its an acer aspire by the way. Charger or something inside lap top?The red light is still on and the plus symbol is shown its plugged in but if I move it about or look in a fwe mins the plug symbol will not be there and I will be getting warnings of a low battery

Had the same issue with my daughter's lappy, same make and model. On her's it was a dry joint where the dc input is soldered to the board.

I was thinking that as I had an old keyboard that needed soldering around the output point. I dont want to send it away on the garentee as they take ages! plus I dont want people poking through my lap top. Was hoping it was the charger there Crying or Very sad

and i know it will only get worse to the piont where I dont beable to switch it on anymore.

Depends how steady your hand is with a small tip soldering iron mate, I got one of the electrical engineers at work to pull it apart and fix it.

Maplins do a charger for about £30 that will power your Acer.

Cheapest thing to try if you can't borrow one from elsewhere to try first.

If it turns out it is the laptop, you can always sell the charger on ebay.

Thinking about it you should be able to meter across trhe contacts of the charger socket with a Fluke meter, if it comes up as open circuit then its the socket. If there's continuity then it's most likely the charger.

Use a multimeter and see if there's a resistance (ohms) between the contacts on the charger socket. If the meter shows ohms (continuity) then this means the circuit is intact. No ohms (open circuit) basically means a wire is off between the socket and the mobo. These sockets really are too fragile, my daughter's one has been fixed twice.

Took it to the place that takes care of acer warrentys and they tried it and it was the charger and gave me a new one under warrently! Happy days! I thought I was going to be without it for a while and actually cried tears at the thought of this Shocked

But I got it back today new charger and its working great Mr. Green

Used to have an acer too. It was the charger that got screwed. They replaced with a new one for free. Then it went out again after a year.

Well if it packs up again they arnt that dear to replace on ebay if the warrently runs out, I kinda think it was my fault as it was tangled up for a while and probably put strain on it but they said it wasnt and I kept zip about that lol . But I was really impressed with the customer service of this place and how quick they had it sorted.
