IT support - deleted my outlook account. Help!

IT support have set up a new server at work. They set up a new outlook account and connected me up.

It's all good, apart from i had 8 hours work in my outbox.

Any way of getting this back?

they should be able to get them back if they did a new back-up of the server before they installed the new server, if so tell them to look at the backups and retreave the outlook account data

Your mailbox should be on the old server and will now be orphaned,
If they can hook up the old exchange mail store they should be able to reattch it to your profile. Or create a PST file and use that.

It wont be on a backup at least not in a readable format, they should have "moved" your mailbox prior to the upgrade.

I'm guessing this is a small company you work for? Have you spoken to IT?

We have dedicated exchange servers so this does not happen.

If all else fails your old ost file may still be on your machine and can be converted into a pst which can then be imported back into outlook.

Get some better IT people too.

Why not speak to your IT dept, rather than post the question on a motorbike chat forum?

Sounds like its a POP3 setup rather than exchange, if it's downloading all of your previous emails then they have been left on the server and your outlook client thinks they are new.

Why had you saved them in your outbox though, that's not exactly the best way to to it as it's a temporary location at best that will be cleared when you have a connection or do a send / receive.

So when you are connected through Outlook express or whatever it doesn't flash in the outbox for a second.

If he has been using his machine off line, the mails will stay in the outbox until connected.

My companies email is POP3, and i use exchange's POP3 connectors to retrieve the email, this solution also uses the outbox.

Your client has an outbox the server does not. POP3 is also for recieving mail not sending it, thats SMTP's job.

I never said POP3 has an outbox, i was referring to the client that he was using.

Even if he did connect to the old server using pop3 there would still be no mail in the outbox. So it cant have been a POP3 setup.

Right OK, my point has been lost, but that's OK. I was trying to outline that perhaps he was off line and his mails were sat in the outbox on the client waiting to be sent.

And, i've been doing exchange installs for nearly 9 years, so i certainly do know what i am talking about.
