Im bugged by this . . .

Lived here for 3 years. When I moved in the boiler was OLD . . illegal, but I had it serviced and told the guy that the heating turns on even when set to timer on12 timer off 12. Ditto for the water.

BUT . . not all the time. Sometimes its fine and doesnt turn on.

He serviced it n reset it n tested it, said it was fine.

No different.

18 months later I get a new boiler and have the heating system redone throughout the house. Told this plumber about problem and he said by replacing the pump or something in the airing cupboard would solve it.

New boiler, new pump , new turning bits on the end of radiators, system drained etc. . 2k whatever it cost.

STILL same issue.

I have at the moment no heating on, the program is set to 'off'. BUT occasionally it still comes on.

I always have water program on, but set the am and lunch times to 8am 8am and 12pm 12pm then 4:30 - 5:30pm. . But still sometimes i get hot water coming on in the morning or lunch.

Ive tried to see a pattern . . ie is is it after I do an extra hour hot water? No! Weekend thing? No.

Totally random. Ive reset the boiler. I have set the hot water form 12 - 12:05 and it sometimes turns off and sometimes doesnt.

I dont wanna pay for all this heating when Im at work!!!

Any ideas, Id appreciate an end to this insanity.

I had a similar problem recently I borrowed somebody's clock (its one of those manual analogue ones not a electronic one) , and his worked ok mine didn't it also tripped the fuses (bistables) in the house each time it came on...

Replaced the pump (myself) , and the clock cost me £50 problem went away ...

But there is another tricky way around it as I saw in HK where 'boilers' are plugged into the mains via a special socket like ovens...

is to go out to Maplins or something and buy a socket timer thing and just have it switched on all the time and have the socket timer turn it on and off.

Do you know if you have a hot water storage tank? White meter electricity? A clock switch beside/near your fuse board? Something is calling for hot water/heating. I assume it's not a combi boiler you have as you should only have the boiler firing when the tap is turned on.

It's your three way valve sticking with limescale. The valve that channels hot water to your radiators, or your hot water tank or to both, gets clagged up and sticks open when the hot water comes on. This makes your radiators heat up even though they shouldn't.

I have had this, the cheap cure is to turn it manually on and off a few times to clear it (it has an electric motor which you just take off so you can get a spanner on the valve stem). The real answer is to replace it though.

Mine is in a cupboard with the hot water tank. Get someone to turn on the heating or hot water and listen by the hot water tank. You will hear a little electric servo whirr slowly. That's the electric switch on the 3 way valve which on mine you can remove by undoing 4 screws and lifting it away.

If you fix it, make sure to turn the heating on a few times over the summer just to make the switch move back and forth and stop limescale building up.

Your water boiler upstairs is it a Cylinder and does it have a stat attached to the side with a dial on it should be set at around 60c

The honeywell proggrammer in Kitchen has it dual controls or what model number is it

Sounds to me if the hot water programmer was off and the heating was on as though you have a mid position diverter valve which would naturally send it to cylinder if your stat was in a demand mode regardless of what clock is set at
It could also be wired wrong in that it is wired as a s plan when you have a y plan system installed

Cylinder is at 60
Heating is at 18
Program is set to off for heating (cos im tight) - this seem to be behaving set to off.
Program set to run program for water
Auto & run program for both

Water set to on at 6:30am off at 6:30am, but alas comes on.

The elec pump in the airing cupboard was replaced, as the plumber that visited said it was the cause.

From reading the above, I can only think its wiring. When the first plumber came 3 years ago, I dont think he replaced the circuitboard/wiring under the front of the programmer, simply put a new front on.

Its so annoying, im having to set the water n heating to on off to not come on at times im likely to be there so I can then turn it off. LOL

If it was wiring fault, wouldnt the required water not work . . as in water on at 4pm - off at 5pm not work sometimes?

Try moving off to 6.31am as it could be overiding it by being on same time Also on the back of the programmer there is a wireing diagram have a look see if it is wired as per the diagram and has no extra cross links in it
