Recomend a good track bike?

Well, I've sold the 916 and will be on the look out for another track bike over the winter.

It will mainly be a track bike, but I would like the option of using it on the road every now and then.

I think I'll have approx £3k to spend, and dont want anything smaller than a 750. But really fancy a 1000 IL4 this time.

So far I've had a couple of ZXR750's and the 916 for track bikes. Fancy a little more 'oomph' now, as I was always getting passed on the straighs and held up in the corners!

Any idea's lads & lasses?

Just buy a 600 because then you have bragging rights when someone is slower on a big bike. "I just owned you and I'm only on a 600!"

You also have mitigation for when you get pwned by someone faster... "Well, I am *only* on a 600..."

Plus they are dirt cheap and plentiful, unlike large capacity track bikes...

Or get an ex Minitwin SV650...

early r1's and k1 gixxers will probably be your best bet.

I dont know why, but I really dont want an R1 for some reason!?

Thinking Mille possibly, but think I'd prefer a twin. Might leave it a couple of months before I buy one and save a few more pennys so I can go for something a little newer. Or maybe something will come up sooner! I'll have to keep my eye's open

Have a look on www.motoforum.net for some good deals at the moment; though mostly fours.

If you're getting owned on the straights, then the probability is you can get more speed coming out of the corners; as suggested, I don't think 40hp should make a massive amount of difference until you're a way down the straight.

Got lap times for any tracks?

the power difference is most noticed on faster tracks. places like cadwell or rockingham my 636 keeps with r's zx10's etc lap after lap.
if you feel you need more power then go for it.
my personal choice would be a gsxr750 for a 4cyl or an rsv mille....
im happy with the 636 tho, its fun screwing its neck on faster circuits, ideal for smaller circuits

That's pretty respectable Cadwell time; I'm surprised you're finding it a big issue.
Doing those sorts of times, I've rarely found that it happens that much.
That sort of time was about the best I managed on the 675 (wasn't happy with riding) and also on the SV (much happier with riding).
I've seen a CBR600RR win a powerbikes race at Cadwell in the past (ok, he was /very/ good!)

Going from a 600 to a SV650 I acutally improved my lap times... going back I didn't get faster (ie I got worse; though I had a rather poor start to the year, with a broken arm and was generally being a bit crap).
Being down on mid-range torque shouldn't matter when you're in the right gear at the right time.

the major benefit of owning a 1000 bike is you get the experience of high velocity speed and tyres spinning alot more.

gives valuable experience in my opinion as it gets you use to the bike moving around alot more also In turn making 600cc speeds feel slower so then more likely to overcome any speed issues with high speed corners.

just my 2pence. I got my 2004 r1 for £3500, there are deals outthere to be had.

I can understand why you wouldnt want an R1, i have an extreme hatred on the things too.

yea 998s are like collectors items now, and 999s can be had for cheap ish if you look around, buy a binned one for 2.5k and slap some track fairings on it.

I seem to prefer twins on track.

I think its the stigma attatched to R1s that makes me hate them so intensly.

For example if you rode past a chav scumbag, or even stopped an asked an R1 would be mentioed somewhere, "ahhh blud why dont you get an R1 best biek in da wowd innit !"

Or

My mates got da R1, we went past da police on the back wheel 190 mph with no hands, true Gs innit.

I actually had some div come up to me whist on my 749S parked up, asking me why i didnt get an R1 and how he used to have a RIZZLA rep R1.

So you can see why there isnt one Yamaha in my sig below
