I want to change my dot4, however, the screws won't budge. I've finally unscrewed one having sprayed (reluctantly) the top of the chamber with wd40, howeverm the second screw is stubbornly staying put.

what to do, what to do...?

Try with a good pair of grippy, chunky pliers if you don't mind tearing it up.

I find the screws on round master cylinders protrude quite abit, enough to get a good hold with the pliers anyway.

hi,
are you talking about the 2 screws that hold the cover on the m/c?
these always round off, cos folks use the wrong screwdriver on them!
just last night removed one by grinding the top of the screw off with the pink pointed grinding stone attachment on the dremel.took about 5mins.
cover then lifts off & your left with the stub of the screw.
this comes out with molegrips.
replace with decent screws.
cheers,
GAZ

if the bottom doest come out youll have to drill it a tiny bit bigger if youve got enough room and helicoil and new thread in there

Search for master cylinder bolt on here.

https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=159066&highlight=master+cylinder+bolt

When I had to get mine out, my first attempt worked, which was hammering a cheapo torx bit (like allen key but star shaped) into the chewy mess and turning that.

If that hadn't worked, first I'd have tried to turn it using a punch as a drift, then if that failed then drilling head out with dremel pink bit and removal of cap and mole grips on bolt stumps was next.

If you have rounded them off do the following;

Find a nice hand held drill, size up the drill bit you need from the loose screw. You'll need one roughly the same size as the thread of the screw.

Drill the head of the screw off, you dont need to completely drill all of if off. No need to go overboard with it, just enough to really weaken the head of the screw, then pull the top off.

Then you can get the thread of the screw out with a pair of pliers and then replace the screw. Thumbs Up

If you drill a hole in the head a little bit smaller than a torx(sp?) bit and hammer the torx bit in, it will unscrew it. i've done this on many a rounded bolt and it works a treat. Just don't drill too deep, a few mm will do on a master cylinder screw.

Nice bit of sawing, all of mine have been countersunk.

More ways to undo them than you will ever need.

Wilkinsons are selling a screw removing attachment for a drill at the mo. (well my local one is). Amazing bit of kit. They have them reduced to about 3 quid. Fits into your drill and bites into the head and hey presto out comes your screw. You get 2 sizes and I can tell you that its well worth the spend.
