Damn... stupid no good leg....

took the VFR out last night with Goat-Boy and after a fun cruise about through the villages, I go to u-Turn, Over goes the VFR, right onto the dodgy leg and down onto the floor.



Bent the brake lever, bent the brake pedal a bit, snapped the blob off the footrest. bar that, nothing else.

tried to straighten out the lever, ended up snapping the end off...


oh well, found one on E-Fence for 12 quid.

She's got her battle scars now.

Gusess I won't be riding again until I get the leg a bit stronger.

4 months worth of physio and excercise. I'm back in the gym and can do resistance weights now, but no idea on what I can lift yet. I've been walking on the leg fine and have just gotten to the stage of being able to walk without any crutches, but take one with me just in case as if I do too much then I need the extra leg..

Berating myself for being a bit stupid and too eager to get going again. Kudos to Goat-boy, without him Id've not been able to lift the bike..

you could try your hand at welding the levers back together?

i did this for my SRAD on the rear brake lever and think i did a pretty awesome job of it.

That's a pretty good job there.

The brake pedal is usable and at £13 for a new lever (waiting for me at the post office) then I'm not in a rush to crack out the welder. The pedal will be £40 to replace so I'll grab one in a week or so if I don't bodge the current one.

Will heating with a blowtorch and hitting with a hammer work on an alloy pedal? Or, I'll support the pedal on a block of wood, heat it and then press it flat again with another wood block to do the job.

i very much doubt that heating and hitting it will work... give it a go, whats there to lose

if you dont want to weld, i suppose as a temporary fix you could drill a hole in either side and splint the lever with thin metal strips and bolts?

The problem with alloy is, unlike steel it is never as strong when its bent back.

I would just bite the bullet and get the genuine parts (or quality copies) for things like that. At least that way you know its not going to snap off unexpectedly when you stamp on the breaks.

Also, I fell off my mountin bike a few weeks ago and knacked my shoudler so I can' lift heavy weights. soo it was Krebsy and his bad leg and Me and my bad shoulder trying to heave the VFR off the ground. We must have looked a right pair!

Do like the VFR though, even if it is a bit heavy...

Alloy isw much the same as Aluminium, depending on thetype and quality, if you bend it a bit , then heat it, then bend it abit more and heat it again, it should go back.

The purpose of the heating is unlike when steel is heated (it get's hardened) some alloys actualy get softer (annelled)
