Hi

Trying to connect up a PC to the TV. The video card has an s-video port and we found a suitable lead. Result is an image on the TV, but it is in B&W.

Suspect it is down to the s-video connector on the cable (it is a 4 pin connector, port is a 7 pin but they are meant to be compatible). Best I can find from reading round is that 2 of the 7 pins should be shorted out to get colour. With my soldering ability (ie, none) I don't want to try anything like this.

Any ideas of a good source for a suitable lead?

All the best

Keith

Hi

Nope, built from various bits.

Found quite a few references to the problem, but not found a decent source of a cable.

All the best

I had that problem on one of my tvs. Colour on one B&W On another.

I never figured out the problem and in the end bought one of these which sorted it - Assuming you have component in on your tv.

S-Video will appear black and white if the TV is not set to receive an S-Video signal. There may be an input called "A/V-S" or something similar, which should show the colour picture.

what e said, my tosh TV has 2 scarts and phono inputs, Only one scart can handle S-Video and even then you have to go into the settings to tell it that it is expecting S-Video...

Hi

Found the manual for the TV. Only one of the scart sockets will officially suppport s-video and there is an option to change to it. I tried this but it made no difference. Still basically B&W.

It does have phono connections on the front so I might try those if I can find a lead.

All the best

Keith

Can you change the video card output from/to NTSC or PAL? It could be that the card is outputting NTSC which would appear as B&W on a PAL TV.

Honestly don't know how I could do that (box is running Xubuntu with the default installation drivers).

All the best
