In this cold and wet weather gloves are always a bonus, however to make best use of them do you wear them over your jacket sleeves or inside your jacket sleeves?

I normally wear mine over the top of my sleeves as my winter gloves have pull strings to tighten them around my wrists and I reckon this way stops cold wind getting up your arms! However in the recent downpour I found my hands getting soaked with all the water running down my sleeves into my gloves, so perhaps I should be wearing my sleeves over my gloves and just fastening the velcro on the sleeves as tight as possible instead?? Question

I've always used glove over cuffs as it keeps the wind out as it flows over the wrists and onto my covered arm instead of up my sleeve...

Also as a bonus when it rains I mean really rains you can wipe your visor without water running up your arm.

Where's my both option? I have my gloves over the cuffs of my leathers and then put a waterproof hi-viz jacket over the top.

voting for gloves over as that's what I do when it's not so bloody dark & cold - roll on summer!

Gloves over cuffs when its dry, keeps the wind out. Cuffs over gloves when its wet, stops water running down into gloves. Took me a week to dry my winter gloves the last time the insides got soaked by water running down my arms, so I'm not letting that happen again!

If its really booting it down though I wear my gloves over the cuffs of my textile jacket, then my oversuit over the top with the cuffs of that over the gloves. Toasty and dry!

Hmmm interesting, see I find it too tedious wearing another suit over my already waterproof jacket and trousers - generally my journey is only about 30mins long. Plus I'd also end up looking like an extra large Michelin man!!
I wonder if anyone has ever tried wearing gaitors over their arms covering both gloves and jacket arms!?

Depends on your riding position.

If your forearms are so vertical that water runs down into your gloves, then wind isn't going to get up your sleeves; so put your cuffs over your gloves.

If your forearms are more flat (sportsbike) then rain isn't going to run down them, but wind will get up; so gloves over your cuffs.

Hi

Used to go for gloves over cuffs (to stop the wind going up my sleive), but now go for cuffs over gloves (which stops water running down my sleive into my gloves). Partly down to the jacket I have now which has enough adjustment on the cuffs to seal around the gloves pretty well.

All the best

Keith

i recently bought a pair off ebay for 22 quid not long ago and they are amazing, double cowhide on the outside to keep the water out and the warmth in and thinsulate and something else on the inside to keep your hands warm, these have the drawstrings on for your wrists and i put them over the cuffs on my wulfsport jacket, ive been caught in quite a few downpoors since i got them and my hands are always warm and dry, these gloves aint failed me yet for 22 quid they are the biggest bargain i've had this year and probs last lol theyre made by a make called koord i have never heard of them myself but would deffo buy more gear from them

Sleeves over gloves as I'll take cold over wet any day, because wet will also mean cold eventually.

I've always found sleeves over gloves works best for me, on any bike, any conditions. However, that's probably more down to the jacket than anything else. Tight around the gloves..

My dad has a pair of gloves that slip inside the sleeve, but have a neat over sleeve part to stop wind going up... and... They have lil holes to drain out the water that comes down your sleeve (a problem I've never actually had).

Both. My gloves have a double cuff. Put them on, fasten jacket over inner cuff then velcro outer cuff over the jacket.

Typically, they don't make them any more but they are really effective.

Bear in mind it's been a fair while since I last went glove hunting - I went down to my local dealership at lunchtime today to look at gloves. They have some pretty good ones that look like they're designed to be under the sleeves, but with the cheapest being £45 I don't think I'll be buying any from there anytime soon!!

Ok Koord gloves arrived today and 1st impression they look OK.
Ordered large......
Now i have not got big hands and these are pretty tight. Had i bought from a shop i poss would not have picked this size.
So if you do get any of these be aware of their sizing being a bit on the small size.
Now need to get out and ride in them Mr. Green to see how they fair in the cool.

With my old jacket, I used to go gloves over cuffs.

With my new jacket, the cuffs are too chunky to go under my gloves so it's cuffs over gloves. It's a pretty good fit though (cuffs are zipped and velcroed) so I've never noticed any wind/cold getting up in there.

Same as Stinkwheel. The inner Gore-tex layer goes into the sleeve and the outer textile-material goes on the outside. I find these gloves much more effective at keeping the cold out than a newer pair I bought and am still using the older pair because of this.

Also the riding position of my bike probably helps, with my elbows being lower than my shoulders. In fact, thinking about it, all the bikes I've ridden have been like this, just my bike is even more so. I've never encountered rain running down my sleeves and into my gloves, even wearing summer gloves over cuffs in the worst of downpours. Riding in cool weather I have had draughts come into my summer gloves, though.

Depends on the gear.

Leathers, gloves go over the top as they usually wont fit under.

Over or under textiles depending on the style of jacket.

Boots always go under jeans (unless you're a pikey) and go over leathers.

Time I tend to get that problem is a slow winter run around town, when there is no wind blast to keep the water from running down. Especially when stopped at traffic lights with hands off the bars (holding on to the engine for warmth.....).

All the best

When it's cold, gloves over sleeves.

When it's warm, gloves inside sleeves.

The Alpinestars gloves I bought last year have a double cuff and they are useless. The outer velcro fastener is too close to the palm to stop the water running in.

I used to wear a pair of marigolds inside my cheap gloves and they did a job for me.

Both if it's raining jacket over gloves to keep the water out, if it's not gloves over jacket to keep the draft out.

Have had endless debates with a work colleague over this.
I think under the jacket looks cool, where as he hates the idea and puts them over the jacket.
I put them under all the time Thumbs Up

Alpine Jetroad GTXs are double cuffed like this, best cold/wet weather gloves I've ever owned although they are also a bit pricey Sad
