I think that a bike presents the most involving, complex challenge of control of all road legal vehicles.

Or in other words, they require much more mental and physical effort than cars to go quickly on.*

Only thing I wouldn't pick out of those is parts and servicing, as it's a fair bit easier to obtain car parts and find mechanics to work on cars.

I picked freedom though as that's the one thing I can't describe to someone who hasn't rode a bike; it's just something you have to experience for yourself.

Quite a lot of those to be fair... If I was forced to pick a single one I'd go for the freedom.

For me, riding my bike is about fun. Cars used to be fun but now it's a case of "urgh here we go again" whenever I get in it.

The bike gives me much much more. I get a better adrenaline rush off it, I can have just as much fun pootling at the speed limit as I can pushing on a bit.

I want to go and ride the bike to far flung places, where I'd never even dream of taking the car.

For me personally its the freedom I get when I'm riding along, and also the fact I'm fully exposed ( ) to the outside world.

I enjoy biking more now its a hobby than 10-15 years ago when it was my only transport. I find I enjoy it much much more.

There are a multitude of reasons why I got into biking.

At the time it was purely for cost reasons. Bikes are cheaper on tax, insurance, and fuel. I managed to run a bike when I had no hope of affording a car.

As time went on I realised that I enjoy riding, too. There is something about the freedom of it that I like. You can get on the bike and go anywhere. I've done thousands of miles on my bike, most of them cold and wet, but I got where I was going.

I can squeeze through gaps in traffic and park it anywhere I want for free (where I live, at least).

It looks cool. Despite my bike being a bit of a dog, I find it gets more looks and attention than the latest CBR600FFRRYYTRT or whatever.

Many times I have repaired my bikes at the side of the road and nursed them home against all odds. I find them infinitely easier to work on than cars, and having had mine apart many times I feel as though I know every part of it very well.

With my car, I just get in, turn the key and go. It's great, but it doesn't have the same soul.

Like Hetzer and damofo, the feeling and experience of riding spiritedly, being part of the machine and using your whole body as an input is pretty special.

Not to say the others aren't factors, I enjoy getting mucky and tinkering round at 1 in the morning. Making my bike individual to me (then realising it looks stupid and changing it back.) The freedom of being able to fuck off to the middle of nowhere at 3AM on a freezing January morning, and stand in the pitch black, with nothing for miles around. The idea of touring appeals to me, exploring alien places (or wales) with a few mates, and settling down at the end of the day with a beer.
Cool factor is a bit fun, but embarressing to admit. But I do like being one of the fastest things on any given bit of road (biking roads excepted)

But for me, nothing compares to riding close to your limit. I do spend a good amount of my riding just cruising round though, which is also enjoyable (and completely possible on a sportsbike cruiser riders, you spent too much money)

Another one for the feel of it here, being as close to one with the machine as is possible in a way that no car iv ever driven has come close to.

Also the challenge of riding, the way that even a mundane commute into work can become a virtual adventure in these not so forgiving conditions.

I own a car and have a van that i can use pretty much all the time should i wish but the last time i actually drove one of them was probably november, prefering instead to take my 125 winter hack.

It doesnt matter what size bike im on or in what conditions it always always produces a smile and i think that for me is the main reason i ride.
