The key to the door of my shed is lost, predictably the door is locked.

The door has a fairly sturdy mortice deadbolt lock, the shed also has windows.

Any ideas on the best method (i.e least damage) to use to break into the shed?

If they're visible, hacksaw the tops of the hinge pins off and drive them out with a nail.

Hows it locked, if its like most normal sheds its just a sliding bolt on the front door, then a padlock over it to stop it moving if so, the screws for the bolt lock are usually on the outside, just unscrew the small metal bit furthest away from the bolt shud open fine then

I once watched a programme where they had to build a machine that could smash its way into a shed(I think?)
Build one of them.
They are great.

How many levers does the key have?

If it is a cheap two lever one, there are probably under 30 different keys. Ask your mates for a go of their keys.

No messing about.

Smash the glass and then replace it with perspex for less than a tenner.

Just tear the door off its hinges if its a wooden one, now just put the hinges on the other side of the the door opening to repair it.

I would go for the window route and then remove the lock from the rear of the door.

Phone the cops from a call box and say there's a swarthy chap with a beard and a rucksack hiding inside your shed. And you definitely saw wires. And a gun. And heard the word "jihad".

Do as I did to break into a villa in Portugal...

Take the panes of glass out of the windows (provided it's single glazing) Thumbs Up Just gently lever off the beading and pop the glass out. You will, of course, need some silicon sealant to replace the glass... which I found in the swimming pool shed thing, but didn't have a gun so had to try and reapply using a broom handle.

If you can see the actual bolt of the lock take a hacksaw blade wrap the end in some kitchen roll and tape to make a handle and saw through it it shouldnt take to long to get through

Or go the quick route and use an angle grinder

This sounds like a great night out... Laughing

Find a really fat person and tell them there are doughnuts inside...

Or...

If the dead bolt and reciever are screwed or bolted to the door (as opposed to being part of the door itself.) Drill holes through the wood and with a sturdy bolt and a hammer just whack away until the lock etc parts company with the door and fall away on the inside.

Outside dead bolts are hard to pick, they tend to be corroded and stiff. Yale locks are peice pf piss to defeat, in fact you don't even need to pick them. Take a carpenters saw (flat bladed) and just gently whack it through the wooden door surround level with the lock...

Thumbs Up

Who said anything about night?! This was after three months backpacking around Morocco mostly sleeping on beaches and streets, a very long journey by land to Portugal, a day's walk from the nearest bus stop and a big bite off a very evil spider that had hitchhiked in my luggage - I was desperate to get in!

Mmm...

Not so good. It still sounds like something I'd be doing at 3am while half cut.

Thumbs Up
