 |
|
I practised wheelying and some slalom ridings on my W650 a little bit harsh, now this is the second time I have to ask changing my clutch
I posted in a japanese W650 forum and asked if they have had same troubles, but most of them replied to me saying "YOUR RIDIGN IS WRONG!"
I got typical expected responses and now I am disappointed
What I feel is
-clutch spring is too soft (since it was new)
-I couldn't find any tougher clutch kit for this bike.
Please post any thing about clutch.
-How many times you have changed clutch?
-What caused the damage to your clutch?
-If you use tougher clutch kit, what is it like compared to normal one?
p.s. mechanic said they might have to change clutch housing and hub and others too due to the damage when I first burnt the clutch. They suggested me to buy a new bike . There's no good bike in kawasaki line up. I want 800-900cc class but kawasaki doesn't have any. I hope honda makes VFR800 street fighter someday. Why did I buy W650? Because I was too short for DL650, and it was my mistake. ____________________ own:2020 Serow 250

i dont really know how any sort of riding would burn out a clutch.
i've had my GSXR over a year now, got just short of 33000 miles on it, and as far as i know, is on the original clutch (was on 21000 when i got it).
the abuse i've put it through, thousands of wheelies, racing starts etc, and it hasnt begun to slip at all.
i would say its a fault of some sort, or general bad maintenance that caused it.
if your clutch feels light, chances are the springs are too soft, or some have fallen out.
replace them with heavier duty ones. ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. In summery, mattsprattuk is a gobby little sh1tebag, dopehead tw4t, but sadly for all of us, he probably isn't THAT full of sh1te!!

I was doing balance practice on the road paint for about one hour and my clutch began to smell strange. (Keep reving with rear brake on) That was too bad for clutch.
I'm going change springs too. I'll keep searching for stronger springs. ____________________ own:2020 Serow 250

its a wet clutch, so it should put up with it no problem. have you checked your oil level? ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. Thanks for your replies.
Yesterday I changed to new oil at the shop, and it was still sliding, so I asked the shop guy to ride my bike. He was saying "this is something wrong with this clutch. It's sliding in 5th gear".
Now my bike is at the shop. I telephoned the shop now, he said he is asking other riders to check how they feel the clutch, before they open the clutch. But it's rainy today, so they'll test tomorrow.
He said he'll contact me what parts is necessary before he order. ____________________ own:2020 Serow 250

the damage could have been cause by the oil level being too low previously. if it is slipping, you'll need new friction plates most likely. costing around £40 for a full set. ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. Thanks, I hope I don't have to change housing and hubs too. I changed whole friction plates after I burnt them, I tried not to damage them after that, but they started sliding again .
Mechanic also know this and he was wondering like me. ____________________ own:2020 Serow 250

Sounds like you have worn the clutch out with your antics. Repeated slipping of the clutch under power WILL wear it out because that's what it's designed to do.
Be aware that every bit of metal and fibre you wear off your clutch will get suspended in your oil and travel around the engine with it wearing out other parts. You might also have notched the clutch basket with the repeated abuse.
The guys on the W650 forum are kinda right - the reason it's slipping is because of the way you have treated it - whether that's right or wrong is up to you and your wallet to decide. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

I've had similar issues in the past; were the metal plates 'blued'?
This seems to make them extra-slippy.
Either new metal plates, or for a start you could try roughing them up slightly with sandpaper.
While they're not quite in the capacity range you want, surely both the Z750 and Z1000 are quite similar to what a VFR800 streetfighter would be like?
I wouldn't get too hung up on capacity - I've ridden a 1300 that had less power than my 250 at the time .
Incidentally, clutches aren't too hard to do your self if you've got a few tools - in some cases you do need air/electric impact wrench, but not for the Kawasakis I've done.
I wouldn't have thought slow speed slipping like that should do damage to the clutch basket really, even drag starts etc don't seem to be a big issue. Aggressive wheelies are more likely to, however. |

Mate you can get lowering kits for the DL650 that bring it down 25mm or 50mm . there not to expensive around £15 and can be fitted in about 10 minutes. ____________________ DL650 Vstrom 2004

What is important, I'd say is to either replace or fix the metal plates - clutch life will definitely be shorter if there's a problem with these.
In the end clutch metal and friction plates are 'consumables' - just like tyres and brake pads. You could ride really slowly everywhere and try and use the brakes as little as possible, which would save you some money in tyres and brake pads.
However, it's not nearly as fun and presumably you're paying some money to have a bike for the fun it gives you, so might as well pay a little extra to make full use of it .
(Though, trying to achieve the same thing with less clutch-slipping might be worth it!) |

Shop guy said, he can reuse the filtrated Nutec oil. I don't have to dump 7000yen. I will buy Z750 or some decent bike someday!

Hi, as far as we buy from honda shops which have relation to endurance, we can buy necessary parts. But LS125R production has already finished so parts for LS won't be supplied for that long. When I ordered brake lever and clutch lever for spare, I waited more than 1 month . ____________________ own:2020 Serow 250
