CBR engins would survive an apocalypse,
along with Toyota Hilux'S, and cockroches
but 40k is alot.... good look around, test ride, through all the gears.

As long as it's been properly maintained it should be ok, my ZZR was almost touching 40k when I sold it on and it was still as sweet as a nut, if anything it was in better shape than the 14k mile Futura I traded it in for
Try to budget for a decent service right of the bat if you don't have a full history to hand though, it'll do it good in the long run and let you get right ontop of any potential issues from the get go. ____________________ 2010 Triumph 1050 Sprint ST |

At 40,000 miles a well looked after engine is barely half way through its life but theres other stuff that needs looking after/replacing like suspension, shock, exhaust system, brake discs, brakes and loads of other possibly expensive stuff. ____________________ My bikes are at https://www.bikepics.com/members/dynamight/ |

well, in my experiance, get the valves check, ive had 2 cbr400 nc29 engines now, the first one had done 40.000. did a compression test on it, it was fine, two weeks later dropped a valve on cylinder 2 and mullerd the engine, so i got another engine with less milage, but it was running like crap and i couldnt get the carbs balanced, a compression test followed, this engine had no compression on cylinder 2. so ive dropped the engine out and gave it to my mechanice that i use regularly, for when thers something i dont wana do, and hey presto, the valves again. get your valves checked, compression test, take up to the redline through all the gears, see how it idles. if theres is dout in your mind for one second, walk away. ____________________ tlm50,mt5,sr50. rs125 extrema, cbr 400rr nc29 suzuki gs500e.Honda cbx250 rs . Thanks for the advice. I ended up buying a CBR 600 FM for £700. Had the Valve clearances and Carbs balanced last week and have been told it was all spot on. Apart from the carbs which where quite off. Did the Oil and filters myself.
33,000 miles on the clock and in fair nick.
Thanks for the help, hope it takes me to 60,000+ because im happy with this one ____________________ CBR1100xx - BMW K1100 - BMW K100 - Triumph Sprint ST 955i - Suzuki GSX-R 600 - Suzuki DR 350 - Yamaha XV 750 - Honda CBR 600 FM - Yamaha XT 600 - Yamaha Rs 200 - Honda NSR 125 |
