 Posted: 15:16 - 29 Jun 2009 Post subject: Engine get's so hot!! |
 |
|
went out on my hornet today for a quick ride, realised that the needle on my heat guage was right at the top. never seen it that high before.
when i got onto the faster roads it went down because it was getting cold air in it.
any suggestions on what could be making it get so hot??
its got plenty of coolant in the radiator,
plenty of engine oil, (could old, mucky oil be causing this?)
and lastly, could a service sort it out for me? ive been meaning to get it serviced but havent got any money
any help is much appreciated. |

Have you cleaned the bike with a jetwash? Many people flatten the radiator fins by jetwashing then the airflow through the rad is severely reduced. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

Are the fins on the radiator clogged? If so try carefully/gently cleaning them out using an airline, or soaking and rinsing with low pressure hose/water spray - from the back ____________________ https://www.timhastingsracing.co.uk/

It may not be working, my bike sounds like a jet aircraft after 90% of the time after I ride it especially in summer. The fan should kick in at 104. ____________________ Well, you know what they say. If you want to save the world, you have to push a few old ladies down the stairs.

If you derestricted it wrong, it could maybe be running a little lean.
I've just made a post in your other thread HERE, take a look... ____________________

Just the weather alone over tha last couple of days has been enough for any motor of that state of tune to get hot in traffic. thats what the fan is there for! I know the fan on a 2006 hornet dont kick in untill 102' C is met and it turns off at 95'C carb inlet restrictors should not cause it to run lean...the std honda kit has washers in the inlet rubbers about 1/5th the size of the inlets ( I jest you not) but that and carb top restricors wont bother it in that respect. Also the honda kit had a different CDI unit. most probs to allow max torque at lower revs!
HTH
P.S. at 30mph and above you should be fine...if not post up again ____________________ Current bikes...cbr929, KDX200's, Rd125lc mk2, RGV250's |
