Yes, WD40 would be ideal to remove sticky residue from your exhaust. If you don't wash the WD40 off afterwards, it'll smoke a bit next time you start it as the WD40 burns off.
If the chain is very crudded up with gritty muck, it would be an idea to clean it off or it'll wear the chain like grinding paste. More of an issue in winter when there's grit on the roads (Your can of WD40 would come in handy here, or I use paraffin which is cheaper, I use an old nail brush after the muck is loosened).
If the chain looks dry, it'll need a lube. Generally every 3-400 miles, more frequently if the weather is bad (water tends to blast the lube off).
Check the chain tension and adjust if necessary when you lube it. Check the tension at the tight spot on the chain (find the tight spot by wiggling the chain as you rotate the wheel, it'll be tighter in one place than in the others unless it is brand new). ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles. |

You should also bear in mind that if your exhaust is very cold it would be a very bad idea, depending on which exhaust you have (and what it's made out of), to pour boiling hot water over it. A sudden change of temperature like that could (in theory) seriously damage or crack parts of it, or so I've been told.
WD40 all the way though ____________________ will never give up his CG. I look at my fuel gauge more as a progress bar than a fuel gauge.
G: With my GSXR I do often effectively use it as a scooter with a clutch in town.
ms51ves3: why does it need 500 miles? Are you teaching it how to be a piston? |

I have just removed the alarm remote from the ignition key and added it to my main set of keys. I will leave the bikes key on its own as I dont want to cover the yoke...
I was just told WD 40 will stain the titanium can.... Then someone said WD40 all the way, what do I do... use it?
And the gimbo (presumably the chain?) I think has been replaced before I got the bike.... or at least it looks very clean and has been lubed. I got some Muc-Off chain lube today to apply if needed anyway
However there is a faint white mark left on the yoke from the translucent alarm remote, can this be wiped off? (not too important as it can only be noticed with direct light on the yoke lol) |
