Im 18 soon, i want to go to Amsterdam, just to live the life for 2 or 3 days. Just a short trip. Can anyone give me some insight into prices, places to stay and how much money i'll need to take with me etc. Not sure what the best way to get there and back?. I've had a look around the forum, but havent really come across much. Thumbs Up

went there a few years ago 3 weeks after we decided to go (me and my uni mate), it cost £50 return flight, £50 for 3 nights in a hostel

The flying pig hostel was awesome, loads of stoners, all travellers up for a hoot, they have a couple, one is uptown, one is downtown. We stayed in one on the Leidesplein, was cool.

As for hookers (in 2007) it was 50 euros for a suck and a fuck, then you have the banana bar where you lather birds up in oil, and they all dance around on the bar pouring shots in your mouth while naked, avoid blue window hookers (trannys, pretty obvious, so if you go into one dont expect people to believe it was an accident!)

sex shows are shit, do not bother, i was curious, ended up eating a banana out of a birds fanny (that bit was the highlight), the rest is staged and shit

The weed is strong, hash especially compared to here! cheaper than here though, least when i went

I think i spent £300 or £400 in 3 days plus flight and hostel

But, im a pretty keen drinker and drinks arent cheap there, 7 euros for a pint, least it was then

other than that, go get fucked and have an awesome time Very Happy

I've just come back from a weekend in the dam, the post above is pretty much accurate so I wont add to it.

Hans Brinker Hotel for the win, cheap cheerfull, and food and drink the cheapest you will find it.

I warmly reccommend.

Everywhere else is expensive!

Best way to get there is EasyJet, cheapest when booked a few months in advance.

Where to stay, I'd say the Quentin Arrive as being on Harlemmerstraat = win.

How much money to take, errr well, it's quite possible to do Amsterdam on a tight budget but it's also very easy to spend lots of money over there. Amsterdam is very expensive for everything cos it's very popular with tourists, I intend to go to Haarlem next time I'm over there.

Be aware that the smoking ban means you are no longer allowed to smoke tobacco inside coffee shops. So it's pure joints or go outside.

My 'Dam trip is booked for 28th-31st Dec - can't wait! Mr. Green

Lots of coffeeshops don't mind, as long as you're not too obvious with what you're doing, so not leaving cigarettes or baccy on the tables.

Echo the above, I went ten days ago, and rolled with baccy in every coffeshop, just dont leave cigs on the table and there is no problem at all.

I'm here now (again), working (again) about a 5 minute walk from Amsterdam Central station. My room is pretty much in the smokers/red light district.

I don't do either so pretty much sucks for me.

I flew with BMI, but worked paid, about £200 for flight return, train to Amsterdam central is about 4 euros, if you get to the central station you can walk to the "Dam" area, where all the coffee shops, hotels, hostels, restaurant are.

Beer is expensiveness, I was paying 6 euros a beer, which is about £6 now (again work pays for this Razz, they don't pay for hookers or any cash lost in a strippers G-string though Wink )

Trains & trams are all free over there.

There are much better coffeeshops out of the red light district. Smile

Have you found big black momma alley yet? Razz

They are free if you don't buy a train ticket and if don't get on the trams with ticket inspectors. Razz

Yup, it is for n00bs, somewhere to walk with unsuspecting n00bs. You should walk along it with some customers. Laughing

You could ride there, Eurotunnel about 24 quid return, take about 4 hours or so...

De Dampkring/ Grey Area are my choice of coffee shops.

Roads over there are alright, that was driving a big 4x4 so it'll be easy on a bike. Smile Parking, there are multi stories carparks around where you should be able to leave a bike more safely than just on some street which is the other option. Some hotels have got car parks.

Oh yeah, they've got some big bike parking areas lol

Driving/riding gives much greater opportunity for bringing home 'souvenirs'. Mr. Green

But on this most auspicious of nights, permit me then, in lieu of the more commonplace sobriquet, to suggest the character of this dramatis persona. Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin van-guarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it's my very good honor to meet you and you may call me GhostRider

That one? Twisted Evil

Is it because it's rather long?

It actually gets on my own nerves when browsing BCF on the iPhone, thus I shall probably change it soon when I think of something witty.

As for parking, well i parked wherever the hell i wanted, usually outside whatever coffee shop i was visiting. Basically just predend you are a bicycle, park in bicycle racks, ride down those green bike lanes.

Do watch out for the tram lines though, especially with thin tyres.

i like amsterdam, it feels like a bit more of a free for all than london, but with the added peace of mind its not big brother state with a billion ANPR cameras ready to send you a fine in the post.

As Ste alludes to. As a biker returning from holland via france i dont think you are suspect of drugs smuggling unless you act or look like 'the type'
