Not sure, but my Dad used to use Corby Kawasaki for plastics for the KX's. Might be worth giving them a ring.

Otherwise your best bet is probably scouring eBay.
Here's a set - I'd repaint them though! Sick Laughing

I am watching that auction funny enough I did see a complete original set on there last year and annoyed that I was out bid and then missed the end of the auction.

What exactly is wrong with your current plastics?

If they are just covered in thousands of light scratches, you could 'renovate' them.

Never tried it myself but seen a lot of good results on ThumperTalk.

Basically, get some fine sand paper, some REALLY fine sandpaper. Sand them down with the fine stuff first, obviously it will make them look much worse. Then do the same with the really fine stuff (don't know what grades, sorry), will still look crappy but heres the magic part (magical trevor is your friend!)

Get a heat gun and blast all the plastics. Obviously not to much that they melt (well ok, technically you need them to melt). The heat will melt all the little bits that you just caused by sanding them. This makes them look nice and shiny again.

Even if it is a deep scratch, this method works just takes a bit more work.

I was just thinking and even if the plastics are cracked, you could do some plastic welding (a soldering iron could work to melt the edges together maybe) and then sand it down so its smooth and blast it with your uber hair drier.

I think this remedy would work great for the headlamp cowl.

Now what's wrong with the plastics?

I got this bike to do up from a mate, the front mudguard has been hacksawed and split and broken at the back the rear has also been hacksawed short and looks bloody awful the right side panel looks pretty crudddy and faded I was planing rubbing it down and painting it white but I will try the sandpaper/heatgun method that you have described, the left hand side panel is missing.
I am keeping my eye on ebay but was hoping someone would come back and say that a certain year of KX plastic would fit my 1990 KMX.
I have also been looking at universal mudguards.

I fixed up a 91 kmx i had before my cr, obviously the plastics were in a state, changed the front guard for a supermoto polisport one which still suited the bike & front wheel

it had a newer year tank with both plastics either side & what i did to the plastics was i sanded them down really rough to start with in circular motions then really really fine sanded it to take the rough away, then primered them up afew coats & sprayed them with good quality rattle cans back to original. Spent about £45 doing the job & new front guard Thumbs Up

sadly no pixs in finshed state because i sold it straight after

I found this thread: https://www.motorcyclephilippines.com/forums/showthread.php?t=188824

It is a Philippino forum, so is a bit of a headfuck reading the mixed english/philippino sentences, but one of the posters (culapol) on that thread seems to be suggesting he fitted Polisport KX plastics to his KMX.

No idea which years, or whether they needed modding.

If you're feeling brave you could try and ask him! Laughing

Kawasaki KMX is really popular here in the philippines. There's a category in offroad racing called local enduro here where Kawa KMX, yamaha DT and honda XR200 race..

Kmx is always the fastest.

About your concern about the plastics, they dont really fit. People here just fabricate it. You can weld some nuts where you can mount and screw the plastics so it would fit and still look nice.

The only thing that requres less work would be the front fender. and the number plate at the front

for the side panel and rear fender, you have to weld some nuts on the frame. You may need to use like a flat bar depending on the posistion you wanna mount the plastics.

The hardest thing would be th seat. You cant just use your stock seat, we fabricate it. They just mold it using fiber material then add the foam then the seat cover.

We also replace the exhaust pipe and silencer with the after market one. tunes like an FMF pipe tailored for the KMX

for performance i think you can use the boyesen reeds for the older models of KX or YZ if im not mistaken. lighten the magneto, use scotch brite as your airfilter, etc..

you just need to mount the plastics and have the seat fabricated. You have to get rid of the headlight too and use a small lamp and mount it to the handle bar..
