Following on from the shitty job thread. how cool is your job?

Me? I'm an IT manager, only IT bloke on site, boss works in France and I've never even met him.
I do next to nothing all day, I've had a separate broadband line installed so I can surf and not go through the firewall and I've just bought an xbox 360 to put in the server room, rigged up to a projector.....I get paid for this shit!

What's the coolest thing about your job?

Wish I had a job Hoping to get an apprenticeship next year after I graduate though (Foundation degree)... sick to death of education at this point, I'd rather work my way up the employment ladder with experience than degree's.

Project Manager, the company I currently work for is pants, so I will be looking out for somewhere else at some point. Right now it's convenient and allows me to cycle to work, that's enough.

My job is rubbish, it's in IT.

Every time that advert comes on with the depressed guy eating slop for his breakfast looking pissed off then the cheery voice over guy talks a load of shite about the average salary being over £37k per annum (also, on a pedantic note. Isn't an average a mean amount? Saying it's over a certain amount is redundant.)

Anyway, I find my self shouting "Don't do it!" at the TV.

There is nothing original about IT, there is no way you can bring anything unique to the job as it's all written down somewhere. My job is so boring, I find myself deliberately getting in trouble to spice up an otherwise dull dull dull workplace existence.

I've been in IT for about 20 years now - the last 8 years have been contracting so I tend to only spend between 3 months and 2 years at each place. I really enjoy the variety, lack of tax and the ability to walk away if I really fuck something up

About the same here. Spent from 1994 to 1999 contracting, and probably enjoyed it more than anything else as I didn't get drowned in bureaucracy and was trusted to get things done.

Trouble was I landed up going back to one of the places I contracted at as a permy in 1999, and it rapidly went down hill. No training, no worthwhile reviews, progressively worse work (when they split development and support staff up), no thanks for any work, no trust in any of the staff and the final straw was a manager with zero people skills who wanted you to lie on progress reports, etc, to make him look good.

I've had loads of jobs not many of them are cool though. I'm self employed at the minute and getting paid to be on bcf all day and playing xbox. But i'm packing that in and want another job i'm bored. I've worked in garages where i was paid to spray one thing a day and then spend the rest of it smoking and reading retro magazines. Falling through roofs and driving quads around fields. Then was a chef for 2 years which was quite fun if you took 16 hour days out of the equation.

Wish i had a zoo job or something like that. Or working for a magazine writing bollocks about shite.
